Not seen him mentioned hereabouts (might have missed it) but OTG has him listed as a potential 4-5th rounder on his excellent blog that links to scouting reports (great resource Mr Grid).

He's listed as 6-3 and 258lb's which puts him in the ballpark for a potential 3-4 Patriot OLB and there's a fair amount to like. All these come from scouting reports from OTG links:

e plays all over the Boise State defense. He will play with his hand on the ground, can stand up and rush from a two-point stance and will blitz from the inside as well. He exhibits an explosive first step off the ball both with his hand on the ground and standing up.

He also plays the run well for his size, is patient when taking on blocks, extends his arms well and has a violent set of hands. His combination of body control and hand strength allows him to keep himself clean into contact, fend off the block and work his way in pursuit.

Also, McClellin is often asked to drop off into coverage and is a solid athlete in man. He keeps his feet under him, exhibits some natural balance/fluidity in the hips and can re-direct and close on the football.

"Active, productive, competitive, assignment-sound defender with good movement skills and body control, though his best trait is his relentless playing temperament, as he lacks exceptional athletic traits (plays better than he tests).

Character player has operated from two- and three-point stances and versatility and special-teams ability adds to his value."

OK, that's a highlight reel of positive comments, but he seems to encompass most of what BB likes in a draft pick; intelligent, good intangibles, versatile, plays special teams and not a project. He might not amount to more than a capable back up (although Wes Bunting gives him a 6.5 grade as a potential starter). Might not be a bad bet in rounds 3-5.

Does anyone know anything about him?

Thanks for the Props, Brother Manx!! :rocker:

Yeah, I had'm in my first Mock, but he was allegedly a Late Round or UFA guy at that point...As you point out, he's been SOARING up the Boards!! I'm starting to get a Brooks Reed feeling, here!!

I know but I only saw that after I wrote the post - was hoping to get back here before your good self and credit you with the spot.

I picked up on him only when reading a forum comment elsewhere that was a bit of a throwaway line (paraphrasing) - "best 3-4OLB in the draft", which was odd as I hadn't seen him mentioned elsewhere and as the words 3-4OLB and draft are synonymous with the Pats I thought I'd do some further research. So props to you for the spot.

same size and description of a great DE from florida a while back, cunningham I think was his name.:rocker:

Class Act.

I really like him too. And if we can get him in the 5th I'd snap him up (then worry about getting arrested for grand theft.)

If he runs well, could we kick him inside to ILB?

Well, I'm 100% opposed to the idea, simply because it's far harder to find a good Flanker than a MidFielder...

But I applaud your Off The Grid Thinking, sir.

PS ~ If he DOES run the "40" well, I'm afraid that his transformation to Brooks Reed II...will be COMPLETE.

I've noticed him along with billy winn. Both pretty active and would like either one.

The one guy i feel that belichick would really want is nick perry. Its hard to pinpoint what bb likes in passrushers but perry doesn't have alot of hype so he could be within reach and he is very consistent. He is a power rusher with decent speed. He gets to the quarterback without conceding the run. At first glance, I wasn't a fan, but after watching many usc games he grows on you.

Don't the TExans have the top ranked defense in all of football? They have a lot of guys on that defense that we have liked in the past, Williams, Watts, Cushings, ryans, Jackson, Reed and of course the famous MR. Barwin.

Surrrrrrre...

And what the hell does that have to do with kicking McClellin inside??

My point is that Brooks Reed looked one HELL of a lot better as a Late Rounder in September...than as a 2nd Rounder in April.

And if Shea McClellin ~ who boasts a LOAD of Pass Rushing skills ~ blasts a fast "40", there's no way in HELL that anyone's gonna ask him to convert to Middle LineBacker. Why in God's name would you THINK that??
