Shaun Phillips, DE? Would be cheap...

6 million for Phillips was a bit much, I would love if Ford is there at #29 if the pats are looking for a DE

While I agree that our best bet may be the draft, is Dee Ford big enough?

WEAKNESSES: Lacks the size and leverage ability to routinely hold his ground at the point of attach against tackles, when asked to defend the run. Lacks consistent rep experience dropping into coverage and may have a learning curve there at the next level, where he'll need to show an ability to contribute if he hopes to be an every-down NFL player.

COMPARES TO: Corey Lemonier, OLB, San Francisco 49ers - Like Lemonier, a former teammate, Ford is an undersized pass-rusher who primarily lines up at defensive end for Auburn but will be asked to transition to outside linebacker in the NFL.

Scott Crichton could be there in the 2th round I think he would look great on the other side of jones

Dee Ford is basically the same weight as Buchanan (maybe even lighter depending on source (252 on wikipedia, 240 on espn, 252 on nfl.com combine page)), who was made famous to Patriot's fans for ending up 12 yards behind the QB everytime he tried to rush the passer.

He's too small for us. He needs to gain about 20lbs and learn how to hold his ground.

He's a good prospect, productive in college, but he looks more like a LB than a DE to our defense. Not really a fan for our current style of defense.

I like Tuitt a lot more if he falls to us, even if he's built more like a 3-4 DE than a 4-3 DE, we like to be multiple, and he can get after the passer a bit, he'd also be a lot more stout against the run than most DE's who are available where we pick. He looks like a guy who can play inside or outside in our defense, giving multiple positions a much needed rest heading into the 4th Q.

I'd be happy with a 3rd down defensive line of:

Jones-Tuitt-Kelly-Ninko or Jones-Wilfork-Kelly-Tuitt depending on the yardage. Stoutt against the run and capable of pushing the pocket from every position regardless of who is on the field.

This is basically how I feel about Dee Ford as well, although he'd likely be able to set the edge better than Buchanon. That is of course, debatable--and wouldn't be saying much even if true, judging by Buchanon's struggles in that aspect last season.

I just don't see Ford being able to add as a DE on a consistent basis should one of Ninkovich/Jones go down + need rotational breathers.

Bill should've signed John Abraham last year when he had the chance. How penny-wise but
pound-foolish does that look now. I guess he'd rather spend the money on an old, overweight,
broken-down run-stuffer instead.
