Sent ESPN Ombudsman Jim Brady an email, he replied

My reply:
No thank you, sir. I do not know you and don't want to stereotype you, but most national writers (Peter King is a prime example) say we are just a whiny fanbase because of what we see is unfair media treatment. If you're going to use my name in an example like that, thanks but no thanks. I already get a hard time from non Patriots fans in real life, don't need it online as well.

I know your job isn't easy, and being a Jets fan I am sure you get a ton of crap from fans of my team and others. Thanks for reading and replying...I imagine you had a lot of misspelled garbage to sift through after you posted your request for ESPN feedback.

Steve

He replied "That's fine I'll use it anonymously if at all". Pretty sure that my suspicion was right.
When you submit it, they can use it if they want, but you had a good line so you should have let them use it.

The old anonymous resource. Perhaps he should refer to you as an anonymous resource in high standing within the PatsFans group.

I heard this Jim Brady guy is a child molester and distributor of child porn. I just e-mailed a number of ESPN sponsors of what I've heard. Then I e-mailed news outlets and religious organizations in Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, North and South Dakota and Utah asking why they were supporting child molestation and child pornography. Do their congregations know this Jim Brady , northeast New Yorker is a child molester and trying to distribute child pornography in Salt Lake City, Dubuque and Muskogee?

I mean, I heard that so it must have some truth to it.

You do know that the new ESPN ombudsman is a jets fan right ? Iam not joking. That who he is. check it out.

75% of BSPN are Jet fans. Makes you wonder what the prerequisites to work there are?? Obviously they do not include common sense and logic.

Yeah, but he said he didn't do it. So I'll take him at his word.

Besides Tom Brady smashed his cell phone!!!!!

when I want hard hitting, incisive news commentary I always look for Pablo Torre..said no one ever

This is the guy who tweeted this after getting this new job. It says a lot about his credibility and ESPN's

I bet the NFL leaked the PSI results from Minn/Seattle to ESPN. And this will not be good for the Pats.

They did not even test them in that game.. the NFL does not want the truth.

He was hired in November, so no.

Honestly, fellas, if we want to trash other people's reporting, we need to do a better job of fact-checking our own stuff.

OK, @Fixit, this was a tweet from LAST WEEK:

  1. Jeremy Gilbert @jeremygilbert
@jimbrady No matter what good thing happens someone has to compare it a bad thing that happened to the Jets.

Welcome to my life.

I agree with your assertion for the need for better accuracy but I would ask this should this guy have been hired for this position based on what he has on his resume?

I'm not going through this again.

That's not his only negative tweet about the Patriots, but it's emblematic of Jim Brady's thinking. If, by September, you still thought the Patriots and Brady were guilty in deflategate and were running other undetected schemes, you're a biased sap who will believe anything without thinking.

With that mindset, don't expect his column on ESPN's deflategate coverage to be very critical of his employer. He'll acknowledge that the "11 of 12 balls" report was wrong (because how could you not?), but he's going to paint Mortensen as the victim - He didn't know his sources were lying. He was taken advantage of. He won't mention anything else: the unanimous, over-the-top, negative coverage, symbolized by Brunell crying, the repeated lies about the Rams walkthrough and the 12:30 am apology for those lies that was edited out of subsequent repeats of Sportscenter. He'll move on to justifying ESPN's coverage by saying how "shady" the Patriots are. Left unsaid will be how shady activity by every other team, from the Jets tampering with Revis to the Bengals using cellphones on the sideline to Manning's HGH, is ignored or minimized. Finally, he'll echo Peter Kings "inferiority complex" claim about Patriots fans and use the OP's email as one of his examples. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he takes a different tone, but my expectations for a Patriots hating Jets fan working at ESPN are not high.

Lastly, Brady's been at ESPN since early November and he's written 3 articles. One was about the Heisman voting. The other 2 were basically the same kind of introductory piece asking for topics to address. That was originally published on 11/25, then repeated on 1/4. He says he going to write a monthly column, beginning this month. Let's see if that actually happens.

3 articles in 3 months.

That's Woody Johnson-type production.

Look, I'm hoping he completely rips the Patriots and that his piece gets alot of national attention.

..........because that will shine a light on this guy and the rest of the media will start noting his obvious background. His mere hiring went under the radar, but if he enters the fray under an ESPN byline then there will be notice and people will start asking questions. This could actually be the tipping point where the rest of the media fully investigate ESPN, their relationship with the league and this guy.

In summary, attacking the Patriots would be the absolute stupidest thing for this guy to do. I hope he makes our day!

I'm willing to give the guy a chance. The league already has their pound of flesh from the Patriots. If he reports honestly, it could really shift the narrative against the league -- especially for those that haven't been paying attention.

It's not like the main points are in dispute.

- Chris Mortenson filed a false and prejudicial report
- Even if he didn't know it was false until May (when the Wells Report came out), he didn't retract it until August.
- Mike Reiss had comments about Brady apologizing falsely attributed to him
- Mike Reiss' comments about some of the unlikely parts of the ESPN story (like would teams really leave play sheets loose in their locker room and pointing out how much NFL security it s around) were removed from his blog after being posted.

If he mentions these things, he's doing his job.
