Semi-OT: Brian Daboll hired by Giants

The giants are a bad football team. They weren’t a bad football team because of coaching. They were bad because
5) they blew money in free agents who contributed little or were injured a lot
i.e. Kenny Golladay was signed on a four-year, $72 million contract. Finished his first season with 37 receptions for 521 yards and zero receiving touchdowns in 14 games played. Yikes!

This board would melt if Golladay signed that deal here and produced like that.

If Daboll fixes Jones coupled with what he did with Allen he's going to be in the conversation with Shanahan, Taylor and McVey for best young coaches as things stand today. I don't know if the guy is fixable. I get the Giants were trying to redraft Eli but Eli really wasn't that good. Taking nothing away from him and his postseason accomplishment he was nails and the opposite of his brother. Peyton had all the talent and consistency but coughed up a hair ball in the biggest of moments. Eli if you managed him was great in the playoffs but majorly inconsistent and just an average QB in the regular season. Without that defense........Justin Tuck and some of those other guys are the ones who should be getting into the hall.

I think he's going to waste a year or two trying to fix Jones. Then they'll draft another QB. Now he's already on year 3 in an impatient market. If by year 4 they're not at least a playoff team he's gone.

All of that is without getting into the injury history of all the Giants better players.

What other options are available at qb for daboll?

Daboll isn’t exactly young.
I would hope for his sake that he walks in to a plan to scrap Jones and most of the current roster, accept a couple more crappy seasons and build for year 3 or 4, because if they expect him to win now, he will be gone in a hurry.

To question if Jones is fixable requires the assumption that he was once something resembling a competent QB. The right move in New York is to accept that Jones was just a terrible pick.

I more or less agree. I was speaking through the lens of the Giants. Mara, has said, paraphrasing, we've done everything possible to screw this kid up. That indicates he thinks he's fixable. Thus Daboll must have assured him he agrees (yes I'm making an assumption but I think you have to assume that). So Daball will spend a year if not two trying to fix him. Maybe he can fix him to some degree but what's the ceiling? Eli or Cousins? That's my ceiling. So you better get the next Strahan, Tuck, Osi, Madison......

I am calling it right now. Mitchell Trubisky will be the Giants' starting QB next year. I actually think Daboll can get something out of Trubisky. He wasn't as bad as people made him out to be in Chicago and does have talent that wasn't maximized in Chicago. Don't think he will ever live up to his draft position, but I think he can be a decent to good starter with Daboll.

It will be interesting to see how Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense will be without Daboll. Daboll did a great job maximizing Allen's strengths and minimizing his weaknesses.

Golladay has to be the worst free agency signing last offseason by a wide margin. Worst than Jonnu Smith.

Ya, but Judge is a nut-case disaster who apparently can ruin WR's almost at the level of the Patriots.

Yeah.. He did.. He went to work for the JETS at one point.. Glad he washed that stank off himself..
IIRC, he left because the Pats wouldn't give him a promotion from WR coach. He left after the 2006 season.

Daboll came back from 2013 to 2016. If there was any bad blood, it was gone by then.
