Shaun Hill - 34 years old; last started in 2010, going 3-7; 13-13 in 26 career starts
Austin Davis - UDFA practice squad player has yet to throw an NFL pass
Garrett Gilbert - rookie UDFA from SMU

FWIW, Gilbert wasn't a UDFA. He went in the late 6th round (#214 overall). He turned his career around at SMU, and and a great pro day. Some predicted he could go in the 3rd-4th round. I liked him for the Pats.

Bradford's story is a sad one. Sure, he made enough money to keep his children's children rich - but there is something to be said for (1) fulfilling potential (2) earning your pay (3) being a success in your business/workplace.

He had injury concerns coming out of college. 20/20, but you need to hit on #1 overall picks. The Rams didn't.

Then you play Austin Davis or Garrett Gilbert because they're guys who have been in and know your system. They're both pretty bad but so are Mallett and Sanchez, who are apparently the best QBs available in a pile of total garbage.

Ah, now that's an interesting forecast. Mallett has certainly done little to suggest he can become a franchise QB. But better, at some point in his career, than Shaun Hill? I still think that could happen.

Similar things were said about Cassell back in 2008 based on his preseason performance. Mallett has an NFL arm and NFL size, he has upside and until we see a consistent sample size of his play as a starter it is difficult to determine what type of player he is.

Figure it this way. The Rams season is over. So, a 34 year old career JAG backup starts the season. Fine.

The question is: where do they go from here? They have NOTHING at QB going forward. They don't have a starter. They don't have a backup. They have nothing. The cupboard is officially bare. Obviously, they have to draft a QB next year. Equally obvious, whomever they bring in now should be someone who at least has an outside shot of helping to stock their bare QB cupboard -- competing for a starter's job and/or being a solid backup if they are lucky enough to find something better. Remember, they have NOTHING.

Of the available options, it seems to me that Sanchez, Mallett, and Glennon are the most promising options. The problem is that it's not clear any of those teams are comfortable enough with their third string QBs to trade one of them. Ponder is probably the most "available".

I would, too. And, to be honest, that could end up being a good move for the Rams. I think there's enough game film on Garappolo to think that he's no more of a long shot to be a starting NFL QB than any random 1st round QB draft pick. At the very least, you know he has a quick release and is poised with the media.

Belichick tested mallett on friday night, so i am guessing if brady had to sit for a few weeks bill will call upon him. Mallett knows the offense more, it's as simple as that.
