Agreed, the most significant, and for the fans the most vexing, problem any franchise needs to overcome is a bad owner.

We Pats fans have direct experience.
Endured the Sullivan era and dodged a bullet with Victor Kiam.
 
Just can't see Payton and Jones coexisting. Neither seem like guys who would be willing to budge in their ways.
 
Sean Payton and BB are good friends. Maybe Payton can float the idea that he is interested in joining the Rats, and then once they have thrown Rex, Tannenbaum, and anyone else necessary under the bus, Payton can tell them that he has reconsidered.

The circus would go into overdrive.

That actually wouldn't be a problem. Once Payton pulls out, just as what happened with Manning and Sanchez, the Rats would give big money fully guaranteed extensions to both Rex and Tannenbaum, making them too expensive to fire.
