Scouting Report: Vince Biegel, LB

At his pro day, Biegel improved his short shuttle by nearly .2 seconds. That's more in line with what I'd expect from him, given how quick he seems on film. I think he's in the same mold as a Van Noy or McClellin, but maybe with better coverage abilities. I don't see him as an edge guy, really, although he's a good blitzer. He's at his best off the ball, where he can use his speed, instincts, and agility to chase down the ball or cover runners/receivers.

I agree, I don't think he can make a living in the NFL as an edge rusher. I categorized him as a LB as well, but I probably should have cleared that up in my report. Thank you for pointing that part out. He would be in the role of Ninko for me, but needs to add strength to ever play at his level.

Can Biegel make a living covering TEs & RBs in space, or filling holes & stuffing runs in the box?
If he can't do either, then I have no use for him except as a UDFA STer, which is fine by me because he can then automatcally replace the useless Jonny Freeny and perhaps also make the bloated salary of Shea McClellin expendable; otherwise, he's just too small to play near the LOS here.

I think he can. He's 6'3 and played at 250. He said he dropped to 246 for his 40 time, but he'll probably play at closer to 255 in the season. That's plenty big enough. He's got all the tools we look for in a linebacker, and he's gotten better each season.

Some good info here, although they underrate his coverage ability (which I think is quite good). I think that's because he mostly watched '15 tape, and in '16 Biegel did far better in coverage. He's better than McClellin already, in my opinion.

2017 NFL Draft Player Profiles: Wisconsin OLB Vince Biegel - Steelers Depot

If Biegel's weight can maintain 250-255, then can he play closer to the LOS? His arm length (32-3/8, according to nfl.com) is right on the DE borderline.
I admire his game, but I wouldn't make him my first Edge defender chosen either.
