Schiano to interview for D.C.

The two options noted here are that this is being done to rehab Schiano's rep, or that he's actually under consideration for DC. Given the source, he might not even be interviewing. Or, he could be interviewing for something else (perhaps Belichick is indeed hanging it up after this year?).

The debacle over Schiano's hiring to be the HC at Tennessee may have damaged his reputation a bit. The fact that BB hasn't recently hired a coordinator from outside the organization (McD's return doesn't count), but is interviewing Schiano nevertheless, may help his good friend offset that damage a bit, even if he's not hired.

Of course, this is assuming that Tanguay isn't simply making s**t up again.

That's exactly what I think it is- just giving his buddy a boost by scheduling an "interview." These days everyone is jumping all over anything that has the faintest whiff of an association with the Patriots.

Not any more. He's a consultant type guy now.

EDIT: looks like they moved him back to DC once Vrabel left. Oh well

The thing about Crennel is that he's been running something closer to the Pat old 3-4 scheme than to the Pats current, progressive, Saban/Belichick multiple-front system. It's been speculated that the conversion to this current system is why Pees left for the Ravens, so I have to wonder if Crennel could handle it as well as Schiano might.

I would view his role as more of a mentor type. I tend to think RAC would do whatever BB wanted.

Regardless it's academic.

Then Josh or Matt would of stayed.

Not funny man. Going from BB to schiano? Not funny at all.

Time to boycott this team! One bad decision after another /sarcasm

I really like this.
Me too. I want to see BB trying something else on defense to ruffle the feathers of those who think they have our scheme figured out. Schiano and his Rutgers gang here will not be terrible replacement at all. Flores should just change his positional group to get more rounded.

On the surface I find the thought of hiring Schiano pretty boring and stale. However I defer to the greatest coach ever on this one.

You would almost think Flores was getting that dc consideration after some of the run he got during the coaching vacancies.

Tanguay HAS no sources, so this may be a "connect the common sense dots" kind of "scoop". BB has a strong connection with Schianno. Schianno is a defensive mind. The Pats have an opening at DC. So the Pats will interview him for a job.
This is right up there with Tanguay's last scoop that the sun will come up in the East.

That being said, Flores HAS been here long enough to prove to Bill whether he has the chops to make the jump to DC. Reportedly everyone in the organization thinks very highly of him. Clearly getting the Cardinal interview would show that his reputation has grown beyond the confines of Foxboro.

I think the only way Flores ISN'T getting the DC job is if he has already committed to going with either Patricia or Josh to be their DC's. If that is the case, then I think Schianno would be a great choice to come in an become the new DC. BB trusts him, and he'd be a hit with 2 of the more influential members of the defense.

I’m running through my streak like a champ, lately. I won’t be right again for at least a full decade.

As far as being a stallion in bed, that’s left for some hot sauce and a well placed finger in the rear. Rock solid for the next 5-6 hrs.
Hot sauce applied using the same finger I presume?

This I bet he goes with Patricia

B.B. is not going anywhere. Whoever is picked for DC will likely be a year to year tryout to see how it works out, like what happened to googs.

I think it's Flores but Belichick has a man crush on Schiano how were his defenses in TB?

TB defense PF(rank)-yards(rank)

2011 32-30 pre-Schiano
2012 23-29
2013 21-17

So it looks like the defense improved every year.

I Don’t see that happening. If Flores is overlooked in NE then I would expect him to go with either Patricia or MacDaniels. However, Beluchick could believe that Flores won’t be here long even if promoted and he may see Schiano as a more lasting hire.

I imagine they'll do everything they can to keep Flores, but Schiano must be itching for a head coaching job again and wouldn't likely be here long either. He had the Tennessee Vols job until the fans overwhelming and foolishly rejected him.

Wonder if the the interview could be partially for Patricia and McDaniels to get a look at him as a potentially coordinator for their new teams.
