But probably he hasn't signed his contract yet. Seriously, what will this do to negotiations? Add extra language specifying that he must keep his nose clean?

I didn't say real smart.:bricks:

Seriously, though, when people complain how long we take to sign players and how we let players go rather than overpay, (so do the Steelers), just remember how fast a champion can fall apart in the NFL.

On the rare occasions we take on problem players, we have our vets on them like white on rice, (Mr. Sullivan, you remember Mr. seymour, you'll be reporting to him).

Not only don't our players yak at the wrong time, you don't see them doing wheelies, hang gliding, boxing with the wife etc.

It may be boring, but evaluating and re-evaluating our players and salary issues means we are in the running every year.

Article with 911 tape excerpt:

http://www.wbns.com/?story=10tv/content/pool/200606/54353068.html

Dispatcher: What's going on there?
Caller: Some domestic violence (inaudible). He's putting his hands on his girl and the baby is here screaming her head off.

That child is the daughter of the NFL rookie and first round draft pick. The mother, Leshae Boone, called Columbus police.

Boone: My boyfriend, my baby's daddy, whatever you want to call him, put his hands on me. He's leaving right now. I don't know where he's going.
Dispatcher: What's he leaving in?
Caller: He's leaving because I called the police.

Lovely.

Holmes has had prior run-ins with the law. In 2003 he was arrested for fighting. In November 2005, a warrant was issued after he failed to appear for a traffic crash. Then, just last month, he was arrested in Miami for disorderly conduct.

He's got 3 kids by at least 2 different mothers .... and has yet to see 22 years old.

Nope, no warning signs there.

Wonder how the Chin will spin this.

Sounds like the cops are being used. He "put his hands on me"....hmmm., like to get HER hands off of him? Then again, this is what you get when you allow yourself to be involved with unsavory individuals. Holmes is obviously irresponsible and doesn't seem to understand the demands of his position as an NFL player. Hopefully that extends to the field. As another poster stated, makes me happier that we got Jackson. I hope he doesn't have any kids.

Err ...the first 911 quote is from someone else who called the cops first. She called later, hence the second quote.

Heres' some more info I found here:

http://www.postgazette.com/pg/06171/699633-66.stm

According to a police affidavit, the woman said Holmes did "knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to a family or household member ... by means of choking, throwing her to the ground, grabbing her arms and slamming her into a door, leaving her with bruises, pain and a torn shirt."

Shamansky would not comment on specifics of the incident, but said, "Nobody's injured. There were no injuries."

I don't think he gets the benefit of the doubt.

Santonio has a new nickname thanks to Mike Florio at PFT

"Santurdio"

SANTURDIO IS OUT ON BAIL

Steelers receiver Santurdio is out of jail after posting a $3,500 bond on Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had been arrested on charges of domestic violence and assault in Columbus, Ohio. (His legal name is "Santonio Holmes," but we're going to refer to him from this point forward as only "Santurdio.")

Santurdio pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his lawyer requested a trial by jury. (The lawyer specifically asked for the jury that acquitted O.J. Simpson, but he was reminded by the judge that those folks live in, you know, California.)

The person Santurdio allegedly assaulted was Lashae Boone, the mother of Santurdio's youngest child. (He's only 22 and he's already got three of them -- he might not ever match Jerry Rice's records, but he's on pace to shatter Shawn Kemp's.)

Based on a police affidavit, the specific claim is that Santurdio did "knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to a family or household member . . . by means of choking, throwing her to the ground, grabbing her arms and slamming her into a door, leaving her with bruises, pain and a torn shirt." (For us, that sentence conjure images of Rain Main writing in his book of major injuries that "Charlie Babbitt grabbed and pulled and hurt my neck in 1988.")

But Santurdio's lawyer apparently disputes the fact that Boone was hurt in the alleged assault. "Nobody's injured," the lawyer said. "There were no injuries." (We feel compelled to make another smart-ass comment in parentheses, but we can't think of anything to say.)

Said Bill Cowher on a radio show on Monday, regarding the incident: "I really don't have any details whatsoever, so I really don't want to comment. It's unfortunate that these types of things are making the news. It's not what you want to be doing at this time of year."

Holmes reportedly screamed "I'm Rick James, B****!" just prior to the incident.
----------
All joking aside: I think we can now rest assured, until proven otherwise, that the Pats have the early favorite for Best Receiver In The Draft... and in the second round. Time will tell... but all indications for the first day of this draft are very good.

Right now, you have to say that the Steelers are the frontrunners for "Team that misses the playoffs after playing in the Superbowl" award that is given out every year.

Just thought I'd throw this alternative out there, having used it elsewhere on the boards. It does have the disadvantage of not including the word "turd" though.

Santonio Holmewrecker?

Looks like a highly risky pick right now. Character is certainly a concern for the Holmes guy. Looks like the Pats may have gotten the best WR after all.

When Ben Gordon, currently a guard with the Chicago Bulls, was a soph at UConn, he pushed a woman away from him who wanted to go home with him. She was a bit intoxicated as they were at a campus establishment. She got in his face about being a stuck up ball player who thought he was too good for her. She poked at him, screamed, pushed him and kind of had him a bit of a corner. He pushed her away and, having had several beverages, she went down like a ton of bricks. The cops were called, Gordon was arrested and then when it came to the trial, Gordon got off lightly as there were many witnesses to the event.

For Holmes' sake, I would hope his situation is similar to Gordon's but from linked articles, it does not seem likely. Potentially good for us, bad for him.

It depends on the state but more states than not have this stipulation. Even if the police show up and the woman says eveything is fine, they are required to take one of the two (almost always the man) away.
This is bull. You are making stuff up as usual.

How about if you name at least 25 states (more states than not, as you claim) that have this law.
