You think that Amendola is worth Collie or Lloyd money in free agency. If Belichick agreed, Amendola would be cut already. In any case, if you are correct, Amendola will be cut in the next week. This situation is really that simple. No other information is needed. There is no reason to pay a $1M JAG four million a year. Whether Edelman signs or not, Belichick will not pay a $1M player $4M. In your construction of the world, Belichick would just go out and sign another player or two.
For the rest of the world, Amendola was on the free agency market last year and had a value. The current market (with more money in it) can now decide how much Amendola's value has changed since last year when he was paid $8M by the patriots last year. If he is now worth under $2M or even less than $1M as you suggest with your two examples, then you are correct.
What I will tell you is that neither party is likely to have your view of the market. But that's fine. We all have our views.
Well what exactly do you see in Amendola that Collie doesn't offer? Collie is younger, and has a more productive career up until the string of concussions. They both have the same risk associated with them in terms of injury in my opinion. Lloyd was more productive in 2012 than Amendola last year.
I suspect that every major sporting news outlet in US would not be reporting the possibility of Amendola being released if it did not have a strong likelihood of happening.
