Proposed rule change: The receiving team would start at their own 25 yards line following a touchback from a free kick (instead of the 20 yard line).

First question: Would a punt qualify as a free kick or are we just talking kick offs?

Second question: Would you guys be in favor of this change, against it, or indifferent?

I for one would be against it. I like the fact that teams often have to travel 80 yards to get a touchdown. With all of the rules changes it's going to get more and more like Arena football. I say keep it at the 20.

It would have made sense at the time cause the average starting spot use to be right around there before they changed the rule but now it comes off as trying to promote scoring. Why not just allow only 10 defenders on the field?

id rather they move the kickoff back 5yd
Yeah..against a change to the 25, but these kickers so often boom the kicks into the end zone & beyond it's a little like when Belichick campaigned against the extra point--sort of becoming a non-play.

Absolutely not.

I like it. Let teams be more strategic in kicking off...a lot more would elect to kick the ball to the returner instead of out of bounds. Of course, it will never happen because the whole point of the new kickoff line is to limit the number of returns.

How a 2-point conversion "kick" from the 38 yard-line...a 55-yard field goal? That would be cool.

It's the rule they currently employ in college. It only affects kickoffs, not punts or if, say, the defense intercepts the ball in the end zone.

I honestly don't care one way or another. It's 5 yards. Big deal.

Looks like they are bored and looking for made up **** to make changes about..

It ain't broke, do not fix it..

I'd like to see them move the kickoff back to the 20-yard line, give the kicker a bigger tee so the ball flies higher and farther, and watch the players run down the field at Olympic speeds and crash into one another, like on a kickoff, y'know.

Bring back the old kickoffs... Kick returns r an exciting part of the game..

I say why not start the possessions off from the one yard line? That way the league can increase the number of safeties and use that as another ridiculous way to help increase scoring.

If I were a fan of any of the 32, "no. "

Since Ghost is our kicker, "hell no."

Kick returns are very much like long pass plays these days. My first reaction isn't excitement, it's waiting to see that a flag has been thrown.

Move the kickoffs back to where they were and reduce the number of players from 11 to 9.

Get the excitement of a return back and with less players on the field less players with a chance of of injury.

No real fan would ever miss a kickoff again.

Do the opposite: move it back to the 15, unless the kick goes out of the end zone, in which case it goes to the 35.

The only rule I like is the one Kansas put forward whether if the offence is on its own 10 and has a penalty its half distance to the goal but the new proposal would be to add the lost yards from the penalty to the first down marker so it would become 1st and 15 from the 5.
