I think N'Keal Harry will be #1. He had #1 at ASU.....and per Google only 3 Patriots have ever worn #1 (One being the pro-bowler kicker John Smith from the 70-80's).

Could this be because when he was introduced he did so with a #1 Jersey?? Or he wore it in College?? The Pats, and probably the NFL, always introduce their first round draft pick with a #1 jersey for photo ops..

Usually WR's & TE's have numbers between 80 & 89, sometimes they have them in the 40's... but there are exceptions, but do not see a #1 if used that will be for some "Odell Beckham" type superego dude..

I would imagine Ben Watson would wear 84.

That's definitely a distinct possibility, he might prefer 82 now that he's worn it so long elsewhere though.

It's not even allowed for NFL WRs to wear single digits so it doesn't really matter.

He won't be needing any # for quite a little while, so Dontrelle can have it if he wants.

Inman will get 15 because he's worn it every NFL stop except Chicago.

Hopefully he can become a similar version of the previous #15 (2017 and prior).

Yeah, someone above gave me a link to a chart showing what numbers are available to what positions. Always knew WR's were 80-88....but assumed something like 10-20 was possible....or two zeros. Apparently, not. And N'Keal was #1 at ASU and also introduced as #1 as all rookies are.

Man if we can get Chris Hogan production from Inman (with Edelman, Harry, Dorsett & at least one of Donkey/Flash still ahead of him) that would be terrific.

Teens is acceptable for wr so that chart was wrong

Harry will be #81 (since he wore #1 in college), He will not wear #1. Watson was #84 with the Pats, and since it’s available, he will probably get it. Thomas will get #88 which is also available.
I would give Harry #88 ...
That would be TIGHT.

2018 NFL Rulebook | NFL Football Operations

Please note section 1 article 2:

ARTICLE 2. PLAYERS NUMBERED BY POSITION
All players must wear numerals on their jerseys in accordance with Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item 3. Such numerals must be by playing position, as follows:

  1. quarterbacks, punters, and placekickers: 1–19;
  2. running backs and defensive backs: 20–49;
  3. centers: 50–79;
  4. offensive guards and tackles: 60–79;
  5. wide receivers: 10–19 and 80–89;
  6. tight ends and H-backs: 40–49 and 80–89;
  7. defensive linemen: 50–79 and 90–99;
  8. linebackers: 40–59 and 90–99.
If a player changes his position during his playing career in the NFL, and such change moves him from a position as an ineligible pass receiver to that of an eligible pass receiver, or from a position as an eligible pass receiver to that of an ineligible pass receiver, he must be issued an appropriate new jersey numeral. A change in jersey numeral is not required if the change is from an ineligible position to another ineligible position, or from an eligible position to another eligible position, provided that the player has participated at least one season at his position prior to the change.

Any request to wear a numeral for a special position not specified above (e.g., H-back) must be made to the Commissioner. During the preseason period when playing rosters are larger, the League will allow duplication and other temporary deviations from the numbering scheme specified above, but the rule must be adhered to for all players during the regular season and postseason. Clubs must make numerals available to adhere to the rule, even if it requires returning to circulation a numeral that has been retired or withheld for other reasons. See 5-3-1 for reporting a change of position.

Forgot the guys name but the Pats had a QB/WR a few years back who was previously on the Cowboys, he played WR @IND and wore a single digit Jersey.

But that will have been because they signed him as a QB.

My well thought out and exhaustive conclusion from this thread is that there is not much news as to what has gone on in Pats rookie camp.. interesting when you compare this to many other NFL teams rookie camp news which abound in all sorts of useless information that mean nothing except to provide "news" of their draft prowess to the masses..

Just trying to keep my customers satisfied,
Satisfied.

In reiss's column this morning the comments by KVN about the rookies and 2nd year players coming off IR were really good. KVN is taking a real leadership role with the team, good to see.
