Only if they feel they might lose the player to another team and not able to get them on PS. I agree , it might set the player back, but depends on how the pats view the player and the players confidence in being able to get a PS spot on any other team .
We can disagree. If the team wants the player and thinks he will be picked off waivers, they make the attempt to roster him. If they don't roster him, they accept the results.
That's how I think they operate. It's rare for a player to fall as far behind as Perkins now is, and ever come back. Robert Weathers was right. His career is hanging by a thread.
The team wants Perkins and McGrone practicing and getting ready to contribute when called. If their careers don't move forward now, they probably never will. If McGrone is claimed, they'll work on DeMarcus Mitchell or some other player.
