I wouldn't be surprised if it's longer. Romo had the same injury in 2010, in Week 7, and didn't come back that season. And now he's 35, so it could be a long haul.
There's a pretty big difference in the specifics.
For starters, Romo had his injury in week #7 last time (not week #2 now), and the "8 week" timetable would've put him in line to return for the last game or two. It isn't hard to think that they may have changed their minds about their franchise QB in a meaningless week #16 game with the team way out of postseason contention.
In this situation, with a 2-0 start, they could realistically only win 3/8 next games and still have Romo return with the team 5-5 and right in the thick of the NFC East battle.
