Robert Kraft's Press Conference

Bill made an interesting comment which implies she was involved even before he left, and certainly after:

"People that own the team have the choice to do whatever they wanna do. The other people that were in place. . . it’s also the rest of the organization, it’s not just the head coach. So, you know, Robyn Glaser, Jonathan Kraft, whoever the other people are that are involved in those decisions and the structure of the organization." - Bill Belichick
Interesting... I mentioned yesterday in a post that Mayo should take all this in as learning lesson. He I'm sure has learned alot in his lone season as a HC. He signed the contract and should have known from time as a player thier is no loyalty on the NFL. If I'm him.. he should try and repair his relationship with Bill as I hear they were both very close. Bill has all the contacts and connections in the NFL still. Mayo should also look into possibly a defensive assistant role with Mike Tomlin if offered.

Mayo stabbed BB - he's going to get the Mangini treatment for life...

Possibly.. but you also have to understand based on what Bill said yesterday.. there were people in the organization that had say as well on the contracts. Bill likely new of Mayo's contract and was ok with it. Remember it wasn't supposed to be this way.

Highsmith I'm my opinion only feels like he's the guy.. and Wolf and Groh handle the scouting and or player singings. Then Bill said yesterday specifically the last few seasons the coaching staff and front office haven't necessarily shared the same vision.
I hadn’t seen that. It’s very interesting. Sheds some light and gives additional perspective on his last years with the team. Suggests RKK was meddling more than we realized.

It may sound anal but I’m kind of surprised that every team isn’t required to have the same major FO positions. As in everyone has to have a gm, hc, dc, etc. This way you don’t have owners getting cute by taking on someone still getting paid by another team and other shady practices we see. Since the NYFL is so big on parity, player protection, etc…make everyone follow the same organization format. Pats definitely need to get up to date at least like you say. It’s not the 70s…
The league can’t get too involved in internal team management or they’d open several cans of worms legally. Antitrust comes immediately to mind. Legal jeopardy with dissatisfied owners is another. The spirit of Al Davis would be licking his chops.

Highsmith was just brought on this past year, he was not part of the previous regime. The fact that he's going to be involved this time around is big news.

The issue is Highsmith wasn't hired until right before training camp. He wasn't involved in the coach search or draft last year. He will be this time.
It was reported by some that Highsmith was brought in partly to head the 2025 draft process.

Yeah but does he have any time working with Ben Johnson or Mike Vrabel? Or anyone for instance. If not, then they need to be gone unless the coach wants them. This is the big issue.
I understand that some folks want a coach to have the powers of Belichick, with his chosen GM to help out.

I STRONGLY, STRONGLY disagree with this idea.

The patriot OWNERSHIP is respected throughout the league, except by our posters.

Kraft has an organization structure. He made many, many changes in the Front Office last year and will continue to do so. It takes much kore than one year to fix the one-man organization that was Belichick.

In 2024, there were many new hires, including Highsmith. Belichick's so-called system of evaluating of college players is gone.

Kraft WILL NOT scrap the new organizational structure. He will continue to have it develop.
=========
The HC will report to Kraft. If an OC with no HC experience and no experience on the defensive side of the ball doesn't like this, then he can coach in CHI or JAX.
=========
As an aside, this doesn't guarantee Wolf a job. Highsmith could replace him, but that won't give the HC more power. That time has passed.

Oh and Wolf has a new grading scale apparently and Krafty is excited about it. Nice, where was this system last year?
you mean after July when Highsmith was brought on board to head the new draft process?

This is how it usually works. A GM is hired, then he starts the coaching search and finds his coach. It an work the other way around but thats generally a bit rare.

This is a ****show. You have the *GM* (Dir player per) from the previous failed regime, and has been there for years doing interviews for a coach.

This is just Kraft not wanting to clean house completely. Top to bottom and restart it in a new image.
You have defined the organization that YOU want.

I don't think that the patriots want to have a GM. The HC will likely report to Kraft's. Many posters prefer other organizations. Congrats!

Good argument.

He screwed the pooch on the Tackle situation. Major miscalculation there.
Yes he did. If Wolf had signed one of the injured old men instead of Okorafor, we might have won another game or two.. If he had signed the best LT that would sign with us, MAYBE we would have won a couple of more games and had a pick in the teens and $10M of so less cap room for the future.

There was NO tackle options that would have made us anywhere near a playoff team in 2024.

I really wonder how much clout Jonathan has. He certainly has his father's ear but he seems more like an advisor (his actual title notwithstanding).

Every opportunity Bob has had to clarify his role he talks about his contributions to the business side.
Robert has to answer for last year and to start the cleanup. Jonathan brought in Highsmith and will CERTAINLY have to approve of the choice of HC.

Again, this so called new grading system is pure horseshit and just a way to try to keep ones job. Now if you had said they had a change in philosophy on player type they wanted to draft then I get that. That would make sense.

People buying this new grading system, (which by the way was partially used last draft) are fools.

Yea I don't know what to make of the elevation of Robyn Glaser to prominence. Bob trusts her so here she is.
???

I think that Glaser's position has been clearly stated many, many times. She is an advisor and go-between with all things having to do with league rules and league matters. She may have to approve all contracts, certainly if she thinks that a contract is flawed, she can call in the Kraft's before there is a signature. Consider Robyn as the executive patriot VP for legal, PR and league matters.

I don't know how any of you can watch this interview and be convinced they will nail the next hiring, but whatever. This guys has been ****ing **** up for awhile now

Hey, but he said it's all his fault, guess there is that.

I wonder if he sees how paramount this next HC decision is, in many ways. He seemed distraught to lose a friend in the conference, gave absolutely no assurance or even energy about making a better hire in the future.

Let's see. This is going to be a very interesting offseason
yup, only 40 year olds can make the right decision.

Vrabel famously clashed with his GMs in TN. I assume he’ll only come with his choice of GM this time.
Not a high bar since we likely won't have a GM. If he clashes with the Kraft's, well that is another story entirely.
