Peyton and the Broncos go to Indianapolis next sunday night to play the Colts - The Colts plan on having an extravagant pregame ceremony honoring Peyton with videos and all kinds of stuff.

Do you look at this as a right thing or wrong thing to do?

I definitely think this is ridiculous as only an idiot like Irsay comes up with, this is a QB who did put your team on the map for over a decade but now he is the enemy.

He is the QB wanting to beat you badly,he would like nothing better than to win and put your team in a position where you get tight in the division with a loss and maybe a loss you could miss the playoffs with.

You honor this guy like you should honor every former Great player...that's the year after his retirement from the game.

Would you want Kraft to have a big pregame ceremony for Tom if Brady was on a new team and came to town with a decent team and a good chance to win? ...I say its stupid.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

Clearly it was a cocaine fueled idea by Irsay probably thinking it would screw with Manning's head and have him off his game.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I actually think it's genius by Irsay. Crown Peyton, lavish him with praise and gifts just to soften him up before you hand him his first loss.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

Who do they think he is... Mariano Rivera?

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

For Indy to win they better sharpen up that offense...that was an embarrassing show by Luck and Co. against a sub par Chargers defense tonight.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

Lets have a Manning nut washing ceremony live in person. Half baked Irsay idea, how awkward.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

Not sure why it's controversial in the least. Manning was a huge part of Indy and the main cog to the successful machine.

I actually think it's appropriate for this specific player and situation.

The analysts do that every week anyway.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

For Indy to win they better play one of the best games in the history of their franchise, and hope for multiple turnovers and tons of good luck

Fixed the post for ya.

Not when he is still an active player IMO

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

Yeah, I really don't understand what the problem is here. He's one of the game's greats, was the face of the franchise for more than a decade, and the only reason he no longer is there was a confluence of unfortunate events (Peyton's neck, Polian's ****ty management, Irsay losing his mind) that came to a, heh, head. How exactly don't you honor him? Even the Eagles honored Andy Reid when he came back this season, and that's not exactly a figure of the same magnitude as Peyton Manning.

Similarly, if Brady left the Patriots down the road, and came back on another team, and the franchise did nothing, it would be ridiculous. Everyone would know it. And when the Krafts inevitably give Brady a nice welcome if this situation ever did come to pass, we would all applaud it and think it was really classy. So again, what are you talking about?

I think Irsay is a total moronic fool, but in this case he got it right. In my opinion Peyton Manning is one of those "once in a generation" type of players that are included in a very small grouping.

And hell yes--if Brady ever left to end his career somewhere else, I would hope that the Krafts and the local fans would do the exact same thing when he returned.

One thing for certain is that I won't be watching it.

IDK Supa, Irsay and Colts fans are ultimately rooting for Peyton to have the worst game of his career on that day. A cheer from the crowd and a handshake would do just fine, anything more is just blowing smoke up his arse to soften him up like a big pillow, imo.

As has been noted save it for retirement....

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I don't know what to think. You don't typically see retirement tours in the players last season in the NFL. Let a lone an active player who hasn't announced his retirement. I think Gonzalez had a bit of that last year, but don't remember it for any other player, in opposing stadiums. MLB you see it all the time.

But at the same time he built that stadium, so its tough. I guess all that really matters is what the Indy fan base thinks of it.

My thoughts exactly. I think it's a no-brainer.

The guy is still/was like a hero for anyone who lived anywhere near the state of Indiana.

It's not like they have a ton of great sports teams and figures to take their minds off of things and have the kids look up to. It was Colts football and Peyton Manning to anyone who gave a damn about sports.

I suppose that it will depend somewhat on just exactly what it is, but I think for a once in a generation player like Manning, you've got to do a little more than the old handshake and cheer thing.

Hopefully they do a little more than that, while not going overboard. My guess is that a lot of the city of IND probably still respects Manning and likes him very much.

I'm not meaning to sound like I am "right" or anything, I understand both sides of it.

I guess all that really matters is what the Indy fan base thinks of it.

Yeah, this is really all that matters.

If PHI decided to give Andy Reid some extra attention for everything he did there a couple of weeks ago, it only seems right to do the same for a guy like Peyton Manning.

If they decide to give him a 30 min parade and totally go overboard, that's one thing; but if they choose to give him some extra attention for 5-10 min and make it a point to "recognize" everything that he did for the team and city, it just feels appropriate to me.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I don't see what the big deal is. they do this in other sports all the time. if brady left and came back to fox I would hope they would go all out for him and honor him with some kind of ceremony.

Agreed it will depend on what it is but with Irsay I can imagine it being over the top sappy and weird.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

Word out is that on the big scoreboard they will be showing highlights of Manning's Colts career...probably SB against the Bears for sure.
