RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Manning

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

It's a ridiculous thing to do! Let the fans show their appreciation by themselves if they want (or not want). Even if they wish to give him a standing ovation before the game, that's fine. But for the organization to roll out the red carpet like that for an opponent during the middle of the season, regardless of who he is, is just bizarro. This is a post-retirement type of honor. If I were a current Colts player I'd be pissed.

Yep. I'm tired of the Peyton Manning circlejerk this year.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

If Brady leaves in a few years, I'd be annoyed if he gets a ceremony when he comes back. He's not their quarterback anymore. Let the fans give him the huge standing ovation that he deserves and leave it at that.

You sound disappointed PatsDeb. Just admit it, you went looking for a fight didn't you

LOL, I was at least expecting to defend myself! At first when we were standing in line we kind of tried to hide what we were buying, but then we realized that it didn't matter one bit! Very strange....That and that the Steelers fans we sat near during the game thanked us for supporting their team (once we told them we were actually Pats fans )

It's clearly the right thing to do IMO.

The Colts didn't have a chance to give him his due before he left. Also, I like the fact that this is pre-game so that they can get it out of their system and then go out and play competitive football. No big deal at all. It's not like honoring a Gator QB at the Univ of Miami's stadium.

That's a pretty funny story!

i have no problem with that...I am one of the rare fans on this board that is very impressed with Manning. He is good for the League.

That being said I will be yelling at my TV like a mofo when he comes to town in November.

...and i WILL be watching...

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I think the only reason it makes sense is if they're trying to screw with Peyton, and I don't think PM is the kind of guy who's going to get caught up with it.

You wait until he's retired and then have a Peyton Manning day. Only once he's retired, and not a second sooner...unless you're Irsay I guess.

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I have no problem with it. Celtics are going to honor Pierce and KG when they come home to Boston(probably Doc Rivers as well). Peyton is arguably the greatest player in their history(between him and Johnny U). Are they planning on retiring #18 that night or when he retires?

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I'm reading through this thread and am surprised by how many people think it's okay or even the right thing to do. What if Peytie Pie then goes out and lights up their team, handing them an embarrasing loss? This is okay? During the season? As much as I love Wes Welker, I will not be cheering for him when the Broncos come to town. If I saw him on the street, that would be a different story, but this is the season! This is war people!!

Collinsworth in the booth during the ceremony...

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

In general it's stupid but hopefully it messes with him and puts pressure on him (= good chance he plays bad/chokes)

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

I say no way. We didn't honor Drew Bledsoe when he came here as a player for another team. We tried to crush him, every time. Only after he retired did Kraft (and the rest of the Pats organization) welcome him back.
we didn't honor drew because hes not at bradys level or mannings. brady and manning are hall of fame locks. drew was good but hes not a hof qb. big difference.

I don't think so. You don't honor any QB, Hall of Fame or not, who plays for the other team. While Manning didn't shoot his way out of town, he refused to take a pay cut (maybe after hiding the extent of his neck injury) and has a good shot of bringing his OTHER TEAM to the Superbowl, instead of yours. Don't think I would be cheering that if I was a Colts fan...

Re: RIGHT or WRONG? -Indy to have Pregame ceremony honoring opposing QB Peyton Mannin

In basketball, of course you do something like that. Even Judas Shuttleworth had a few highlights played for him during a timeout.

Manning is without question a top 10 QB in league history and a top 2 QB in team history; many folks would rank him higher than that. He never did anything wrong to the team or fans beyond the level of "No athlete is perfect, and some are less perfect than others."

I think the objections are misplaced.
