Easterby was a cap/football ops guy for JAX back in the mid 2000s. It was a low-level role but to discuss "opportunities" at a SB ring event is poor. He knew better.

Hes ambitious and corruptible just like everyone else.

Honestly, if Caserio wants to go there then I'm not sure why you'd keep him. Seems like a recipe for a disgruntled employee.

A couple of things to consider in this:

1. Nick does a LOT more than just run the pro and college personnel departments. He also works with the QB's and WR's in TC and during the season. He also has game day responsibilities in the booth with a direct line to Bill. And those are just the ones I know of.

These vast and varied responsibilities could mitigate the "promotion" issue. He clearly is a "high level executive" within this organization.

2. While he has worked with and "likes" Obrien and Easterby; his BEST friend in the world is Josh McDaniel. And that has been the case since college.

3.Given all the pies Nick has his fingers in, his loss would be a major one. Bigger than any of the coaching losses we suffered this off season. BTW- this might be a dead time for players, but its a key time for coaches and management types as they get ready for the upcoming season. It's a bad time for the Texans to come knocking.

4. He's been here since 2002. According to his Wiki page he got married in 2009, so they have over a decade of roots firmly planted. I don't know if he has kids, but if he's like McDaniel he MIGHT find it difficult to uproot his family, especially to HOUSTON

In the end, my guess is the NFL slaps the Texans wrist, Kraft gives Nick a healthy raise, and the world keeps spinning.

What "promotion" does he need? He's the 1A to Belichick's 1. Caserio handles all the scouting, trades, and contracts.

Just like with Pioli, the Pats feel that Caserio is their GM equivalent. So, taking a GM position is a lateral move. The Pats don't have to give permission for Caserio to interview for it.

...except he's not the GM. Give him the title and a raise and be done with it. He's done a fine job for the team and works well with BB.

Really, I had no clue. That's very useful to know.

Basically means that if there was contact then there's no chance that he didn't know better and it would be inappropriate/hypocritical of him if he reached out. At least based on my limited understanding of these types of personnel moves.

Why are people assuming throwing money and a shiny title at Nick makes this go away or even necessary?

Here's the relevant rule:

“An individual who is the primary football executive for the club and who has:

(i) The primary authority over all personnel decisions related to the signing of free agents, the selection of players in the College Draft, trades and related decisions; and
