Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

Most NFL reports were talking 4th rounder and every team knew he was available, if a 2nd was possible, they would have gotten it.
He's 32, coming off injury, with a history of wearing down towards the end of the year.
I hope he plays well and wish him the best,
Having an extra 3rd is helpful in the rebuild for a guy that was going to play 1 year and that being a rebuilding year.

I think we can all agree the Pats are not too concerned with wins and losses in 2024 at this point, it's all about building for 2025 and 2026
My hope at this point is 1993 all over again. Bad team with holes but rookies, particularly at QB, gaining experience and proving they belong. And most importantly playing well enough to win in December - a young team trending upwards. Then use FA and the high draft picks to be an actual contender in 2025 similar to 1994. That’s my hope anyway.

This was always a two year rebuild. Maye may not even play this year as Brisset tales all yhe lumps. Next year, the patriots draft a real LT and they will be good to go with a well prepared talented qb, a set of receivers who don't suck and a defense that had Barmore on it.

The worst offense in the NFL paired with an average defense. 3-14 is in play.
It won’t be an average defense. Many holes, and the brains left town.

If Judon wasn't going to be 32 tomorrow, I would hate this trade. But even if the Pats were able to keep him, he was not part of the future. This team is at least two years away from being a contender again. I am ok with being bad again this year if it puts the Pats in a position to draft the missing pieces for a contending team.

Who knows? The Pats package this third with their second next year to trade for a second first rounder and they draft their franchise LT and true #1 WR. But I am ok with trading away any player who isn't likely to be a key player in 2026 or beyond. Including Judon.

We don’t need WR at the moment,

Let’s see what our WRs can do once we have a damn O line.
Next draft better be OL LB DL

The Pats will use their first round pick on a LT. That seems pretty obvious. But that third rounder gives the Pats ammo to trade back into the first round next year to draft a WR with their second pick.

Cousins is the Atlanta QB and Raheem Morris is a rookie HC.

Im hoping for 8 or so Falcon wins.

Except they'll probably draft another WR. Collaboration seems to think LT doesn't matter.

I Would take two OL back to back.

It all depends on free agency. I don't know who is available. You aren't likely to get a franchise LT in free agency, but they might be able to build the rest of the line through free agency.

Not if you won’t spend your money.

Getting a third is wild. Wildly stupid for Atlanta. Eagles got a conditional third for Reddick and he’s younger and not coming off an injured season.
I get the sense that Judon is a guy who takes care of himself. I believe he's going to still be a high end producer into his mid-thirties. I don't know much about recovery from a torn bicep but I feel like it isn't going to be some lingering injury like a knee or shoulder.

We all know he comes to play, and he's a great locker room guy and fan favorite. The Pats have PLENTY of space, and no top tier FAs are coming here. We also know Atlanta was desperate to land a guy like this after all the criticism on draft day and the belief they have a window to win in the next couple of years.

In a vacuum I agree with most here that a 3rd rounder is a reasonable return (albeit likely a late 3rd). But with all of the above in play, I feel like the Pats should have just signed him or fleeced whoever wanted him.
