How many wins was Judon worth this year?
Also at the end of this season Judon will have made 54.5 million dollars from the contract he signed when he came here.Judon was not home grown.
His trade re-inforced the messaging.
Complain and become a distraction and you are gone.
Basides, Judon was taken care of last year and got big money from the team as FA.
More wins this year than next year's 3 is worth for sure. How many wins was Judon worth this year?
Atlanta only has £3.5m in cap space for 2024 (the lowest in the nfl) and only £8m in 2025. Which makes the Falcons as a trade partner and the lack of a long term deal in place maybe not as good as appears from Judon's perspective in getting a huge longer term deal.I haven't read the whole thread, so forgive me if these points have been mentioned or there's been news already that I've missed. Just a couple thoughts:
1) The missing piece of this from my perspective is now about what Atlanta does with his contract. If they do nothing, and he plays happily and productively for the year, it'll make me question why they couldn't make it work like that here. Similarly, if they give him a small bump, I'll wonder the same. If they go and sign him to a big 4 year deal near the top of the market, I'll say okay, that would have been a risky move for a rebuilding team. It'll probably be somewhere in the middle, but it's an important detail to sort out before fully judging the trade.
2) Don't think of the 3rd rounder as the thing to compare to Judon. They're not likely to find a Judon level player there. It's more about having another potential trade chip, and getting something for a guy that wasn't going to be part of your long term plans.
That isn't an answer.More wins this year than next year's 3 is worth for sure.
5That isn't an answer.
Lol okay then.
I'm surprised that some people are that freaked out about this. This team was never going to be close to a contender and a guy with a pretty short shelf life was not a good investment unless your eally thought they were just going to have S tier drafts and free agencies this season and next season AND Maye works out. And even then some of the younger guys will take some time to develop.
This is what rebuilding teams do. They assess who is capable of being a core contributor for years down the line, who is going to likely not last in a reasonable time for them to create a window, cut the excess and try to build off what is left. As others have said, Judon is 32 and coming off an injury. He's not going to be a prime contributor 3 years from now. His best case scenario is that maybe he doesn't get killed by injuries and can be average-ish for a few years beyond that. But this idea that next year or really even the year after the Pats are going to snap back to contention is just wishful thinking.
A team like this is building for the future, not the right now.

The interesting bit for me is the Pats had the cap space to extend Judon, they could have given him 20m+ a year if they wanted. I wonder what Pats were offering contract wise, and if this trade will hinder his chances of actually getting more money this season or next?
Either way, I'd of much preferred a good 2-3 year extension to keep him in a Pats uniform while they were rebuilding, they had the money.
Aren't you worried about being extradited asking questions like that? You in England?
Ok and I still disagreeMy original point was that by trading Judon they wipe away any goodwill that might have been forged by those extensions.
That depends on the pick. The NYFL HOF is chock full of players drafted in the 3rd round and later.
A 3rd is better than many people here expected for a player in his situation.
Says who?
I’m not going to disagree with you on that — as an outsider it seems like he’s well respected by his teammates. But my question is - why was he never a team captain? It’s not because he was an external guy — Rodney, Moss, and Hunter Henry were captains at some point. But Judon never was over his 3 years here. Just seems odd for someone who appears to be the heart and soul of the defense.I watched Judon during and after practice. He was role model, leader, and an inspiration to the other players. The Patriots cut out the heart and soul of the defense.
