Reiss: Vrabel will not be present day 3 of draft

Clear case of conduct detrimental to the team.
Head Coach should be held to higher standards than the players because he sets the tone for the org & enforces misconduct..
Very disappointed in Vrable as I thought he was an exemplary leader. This conduct hurts his leadership creds with the minority of conservative Christian players.

Shades of Bobby K who at least was not married at the time.

As with many other topics I'm clueless as to why Saturday. Apologies to PatsJew.

That group includes Drake. I wonder what he thinks of this stuff.

In light of the new photos, Russinis explanation for resigning now looks like Deltas reason for walking out of court .

The vocal leader of the offense last year was a guy who is anything but a conservative Christian. Drake Maye had no issue with that. If there was any indication that Vrabel wasn't taking this seriously, then maybe there would be a problem. I don't think that's the case.

I initially thought the same thing, but as a previous poster pointed out, if you need to prove to your wife that she is more important than your job, you do something that proves it. Choosing her over an important day at the draft would do the trick.
maybe he should have chosen his wife over Russini from the start...typical "I'm sorry I got caught" mentality and now in survival mode.

I really still can't believe that early on in this thread people believed that he wasn't cheating on his wife with Russini. The performative "You can be friends with women without anything sexual" bros on here were my favorite.

That's a hill I'm happy to die on.

I wish we all kept the old-school tradition of presuming innocence, and will continue to say that.

If you wanna flex about it, you do you and I'll do me.

I've hung out by the pool with female friends from my college days at UConn.

Didn't bonk them back then, didn't bonk them after either.

If other people want to make more out of it, so be it.

Anyways, presumption of innocence is a court thing, not a public opinion thing. Vrabel isn't going to jail for this. It's easy to call a spade a spade.

To me it's a "how you run your life" thing.

I'd rather give people the benefit of the doubt, especially people I don't know well.

If I turn out to be wrong because they claimed innocence but were guilty, that's on them, not on me.

Well if you allow him to borrow your DeLorean, he can do just that. Until such time, he is indeed in survival mode.

The bar photos are misleading. They don’t show where he turns around and farts in her face instead of kissing her

Everyone is different. I think it's very reasonable to think a divorce/cheating scandal would impact someone's focus and now we have him missing something tangible as it relates to the team. There's so many ways it can go. Some guys might turn to their football work as an outlet from the stress and actually be more focused. Others might try to spend more of that work time and effort on their marriage. No two people would handle it the same.

I think it's fair to ask if Vrabel would be distracted by this and especially now that he's tangibly missing something important to the teambuilding process for this.

Asking if it might distract him is very different stating that it WILL distract him.

I don’t think most players go in with the mentality of expecting everyone’s personal lives to be saintly. If any of them do, they’re in the wrong line of work.

Vrabel is a good coach and will have a tough few months and survive this, Russini is pretty much toast.

No one is going to hire a reporter who bangs coaches for scoops and has been compromised for what looks like 6 years when they can just get the new hot blonde to do the same job.

I also think that women who marry NFL players (which Vrabel was back then) don't expect their husbands to be Ward Cleaver.

I don’t agree with it. But it is reality.

Yeah but when you openly criticize and ridicule people who came to a different conclusion than you do, and they end up being 100% right and you were 100% wrong, that kinda really is on you.

My daughter used to complain that I should be like Ward cleaver and tell her what decisions she should make.
I'd tell her I raised her to make her own decisions.
Then she said "Why can't you just be "normal"?

Sort of both. Some are asking me about what they think will happen. Some are just trying to sports banter
But do you get any sense this will actually move the needle on what opposing fans think of the Pats?

You know what sucks. If we trade out, they are going to say Vrabes did it to avoid the media. This whole thing is a cluster****

Right lol. The Pats have always been the scum of the earth to most opposing fan bases so what does it matter? We got a bit of sympathy as fans during the few years they were bad, but as soon as they turned it around last year it was back to the same old vitriol and spite like they had never left the top at all.

I got a 15 year old daughter right now. When she was 14 I had a full head of hair. When she’s 16 I’ll likely be bald.

It still has oxygen. This is the attempt to burn off all of that oxygen in one go, or as much of it as possible.

The first media session was 100% on Mike's terms. Nothing on the calendar till the last minute. Beat reporters in the building for OTAs. Send out the word, Mike will talk in a few minutes. No live video feeds. Every advantage goes his way.

Great time to get that first round over with, but now the field of battle favors the media. It's a set piece. Coaches speak to the media after each day of the draft, always have, always will. Not just beat reporters present, not just top-shelf local media, but top-shelf national media with top-end video crews. Absolute worst venue from Vrabel's point of view.

So, how to steal a day's march? Drop this kind of announcement the morning of the draft. The man is going with his family to a weekend-long counselling session out-of-state. This screams "respect our privacy!". Whomever tries to pierce the veil will get the almighty stink-eye from Mike and go to the top of his **** list. If they are too dumb to figure this out in advance, they will pay the price later.

I hadn't read the new Page Six article when I wrote the above.

I find the following paragraph interesting:

Page Six contacted both Vrabel and Russini on Wednesday afternoon regarding the photos. While neither commented for this story, Vrabel told ESPN just hours later that he will miss day three of the NFL draft to enter counseling.

So Mike and his crisis management team knew another shoe was about to drop before they put out the word on the weekend-long out-of-state counseling session with the family.

It all fits, IMO.
