Reiss: The Patriots can still be an Elite team

They are a elite team.

The pats doesn't need the 1 or 2 seeds to make it to the superbowl. Here's a fun fact: of the last 10 afc number 1 seeds only FOUR have made it to the superbowl. The pats just need to get in and pull of some upsets like they used to do .

I still think we win at least 11 games. The trade of Moss is not going to hurt because we are reverting back to a ball control chew up the clock offense ... part of the reason Moss was going to get less catches anyways.

The loss of Moss could hurt in the red zone but if Gronk picks up some of that slack we'll be fine. A little more clock on offense keeps the defense on the field less and allows for more in game coaching of the defense on the bench.

Overall I am intrigued by our direction and development of the young players.

If the Pats beat the Ravens, I don't see how you can't put them in the conversation as an elite AFC team. The team's potential all depends on the defense and especially the secondary, though.

Sorry but Elite teams don't have defenses ranked 28th overall in the league....this defense needs to start allowing less than 24 points a game to be considered elite.,last weeks win came from STs,Brady making plays and Henne liking to throw to white jerseys.

That was a big win but the defense didn't stop Miami,Henne did - 400 yards of offense says Miami should have kept it closer than the score indicated.

I agree, you cannot be an elite team with the defense playing the way it is. Even last week in Miami that wasnt an elite team.

The defense will determine just how far the 2010 Patriots go.

UMM, the saints last year were the 25th rank defense and won the superbowl.

Anything is possible....i was one of the few pat fans that thought the chargers were going to destroy the pats in 2006 and the 15-1 steelers were going to beat the pats in 2004.

Pats just need to get in and let the magic happen.

Who are the elite teams in the NFL right now?

Pittsburgh? Maybe.

Baltimore? JAG quarterback and less than JAG defensive backs.

New Orleans? Indy? San Diego? Not playing like it.

The JETS? I'll believe it when Sanchez is winning in December.

It's as wide open as it's ever going to get. Every team is either obviously flawed or unproven in some aspect of their game. The Pats are no exception. The Pats have as good a chance of becoming elite as any team in the mix.

It’s the Northeastern U curve: where a C+ = A. D is for diploma and C = Championship.

Details, details. Go Pats!! Go Homers!!

Atlanta says hi

They are pretty darn good and Ryan is the next great QB without a doubt IMO

some times I am so embarrassed by our fan base and the media nit wits

What beauties...... "we can still be an elite team"

that is like saying "Brett Farve is old and needs to retire"

thnx for enlightening me that we have an elite team

it kinda goes w/o saying.

Al Davis is going senile

Giselle is smoking hot

My goodness..... Thnx captain obvious:rocker:

This is one of the most wide open years that I can remember in the NFL. The Steelers are the only team that I would consider elite right now, and that's if Big ben isn't overly rusty and if his health holds up. Baltimore may be trending that way, but I want to see what we're able to do against them before I label them "elite". I don't think the Jets are elite quite yet. They looked pretty beatable last night. Bottom line, if the receiving corps can come together to lessen the impact of the Moss loss, O-Line and Brady can stay healthy, and the young defense can come together throughout the season, we have as good of a shot at it as anybody else.

Uhm how was the defensive performance in Miami not "elite"?

Given the youth, but physical skills and athleticism of the D there is a lot of upside. Their development will be the key to how the season ends up.

Miami's offense isn't all that great. However, I'm on the side that thinks this defense can be something very special, perhaps by the season's end, but definitely in 2012 and 2013. I'm enjoying the ride with this season.

The Cinderella 2001 NEP had the 25th ranked defense in that regular season...how quickly they forget...

The Patriots upcoming schedule is brutal.

Like the 2006 Colts? The defense need only be good enough to support the offense in terms of points allowed to get a win. While I would prefer lights out defense and big win margins, ugly games won by a single point are still wins. Right now with this schedule, that may have to do. Elite teams are the ones with the most actual wins in the end, not the most potential to win.
