Reiss Q&A from yesterday

Reading Reiss, he says a reason Beisel will do better is because he will
play the "Will" LB position. Isn't Will an OLB position even in the 3-4?

Certainly playing next to Bruschi will help whatever his role inside.

No, it the weak outside spot has a different name for us, I forget what it is though :help:

"Jake"?

Plus, could "Wil" stand for Weak Inside and "Mike" stand for Middle-Inside? Just a shot in the dark.

Whatever, I think it's obvious that Beisel is a much better fit in a position that highlights his speed, instead of trying to be the next Ted Johnson. This should make all the difference in the world this year.

Strongside OLB: Sam
Strongisde ILB: Mike
Weakside ILB: Will
Weakside OLB: Jack

If I remember correctly.

I thought I ran across a reference to a "Mo" linebacker.

Yes, that would be a "Ruling Inside Linebacker"!

I don't know about that

Sam and Will are mnemonics for Strong and Weak
and stong is tied to the TE side of the line
It doesn't seem like you'd call an inside LB a weak LB unless you
got two Wills and two Sams lined up Like

Sam(olb) S(ilb) W(ilb) W(olb)

where the two Sams are closest to the TE position.

But two Sams and two Wills would be confusing.

on One Google search I get a coach labeling as follows

Strongside OLB: Sam
Strongisde ILB: Mike
Weakside ILB: Mac
Weakside OLB: Will

So I guess it comes down to the terminology that Belichick wants to use.
good question for one of his PCs.

You can't get just any Tom, **** or Harry to play these positions.

4-3
Sam - strong outside
Mike - middle
Will - weak outside

3-4
Sam - strong outside
Mike - strong inside
Will - weak inside
Jack - weak outside
