The whole defense should be fined as crappy as they played last week.

Don't you dare say that! It wasn't the defense that lost the game! It was ALL Tom Brady's fault! Why, why... the defense played great! Outstanding I tells ya!

What a load of crap. They're taking things, some of which shouldn't even be penalties, and fining people?

What happens when some player actually commits an egregious offense, firing squad?

I don't remember Warren's, but Mankins was a bad penalty. Not fineable, though. It was a late hit, not assault and battery. Come on Commissioner Barney Fife, back to one bullet in the pocket for you.

For every team except the jest. they would just get a slap on the wrist....

The prevalence of fines is simply bizarre. The purpose of a fine is to penalize a player for an offense sufficiently egregious that the 15-yard penalty is not sufficient to act as a deterrent. These last few weeks we see fines being handed out for offenses that were borderline or even dubious calls - Mike Wright's incidental contact on Flacco's facemask, Merriweather's phantom penalty.

It's bad enough that they're heavy-handed with the weekly fines, but now the commissioner's office is acting like an insecure baseball umpire who picks a fight with a player because he is embarrassed by his bad call. Of course, baseball has been cleaning up that sort of behavior over the past several years, whereas the NFL is getting worse. When your officiating starts to look unfavorable compared to MLB, you know things are trending the wrong way. I shudder to think how bad things could get if Goodell lasts as long as Tagliabue or Rozelle.

They did not throw the flag on Meriweather before they taunted. There were two flags on that play one came out later and we didn't see it but the commentators said something about it.

The flag we saw came out was for defensive pass interference but was picked up because the ball was tipped.

So please, no more conspiracy theories about the refs being out to screw us.

The penalty, I understood. The fine though? Warren's fine was really questionable, and Meriweather gets an even bigger fine???

When I watched the game, none of those plays made me think, "Oh, that's a fine." But no fine on Dawkins for spearing? Really? That was the most obvious fine of the game.

Let me see if I got this right. Mankins got $5000 for a late hit. OK, I can see that. Meriweather gets hit with $7500 for taunting. This is getting to be a strange league when you can be fined more for hurting someone's feelings than you can for actually physically hurting someone.

showboating now gets u a $7,500 fine?

haha, i think that includes about 90% of the players every week....

the NFL really seems to hate pats players....i hpe meri gets at least 2 int's this game

OK, then the taunting call was bull****,

all he did was get up and point...

there are other players who stay on top of the guy they tackled for a minute, other ppl are obviously jawing at each other
bs call at a bs time

7,500 is ridiculous....something is a little crazy about this year's fines...
