I haven't heard this take yet on the undefeated season, so here goes....

It seems a lot more likely that the Pats finish up the (remaining) regular season 5-0 than going 3-0 in the postseason (against obviously better opponents).

If we go 16-0 but lose in the playoffs, how will history look at that? I don't really care: a Super Bowl is the only goal that matters. But will the media use the words "undefeated season" in future years in such a case?
 
well obviously, we know what we want -- a super bowl, not an undefeated regular season.

however, if we go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs, the pats will live in media land as a parenthetical comment ("except for the 2007 PAts who...")
