Just saw the argument over these two conflicting strategic assertions over in the thread about centers and thought it would be interesting to poll the board to see if there is a consensus. Should be good for some fun discussions, especially around OL composition: young guys, or vets, as starters?

Win NOW, Vrabel is a tough SOB, I'm betting he takes losing badly.
With that being said, he's probably well aware that they could use some more talent. This team is going to be tough IMHO.
I'm in no hurry for the summer to be over, but am excited for this year!

Those two things are not mutually exclusive in today's NFL. Look at Washington last year, went to the NFCC, but they're still building a better team. That said, win now is the mindset. Plenty of talent to compete this year. Getting back to Championship level depends on Maye's development. Yes we have to improve on the Oline and our skilled players needs to be much better than the past few years, but a great QB can make a team with deficiencies into a championship caliber squad, seen it many many times in the past.

I don't think there is a large distinction. Everyone is trying to win now. Sure there are certain moves that a team may do with an eye more toward the future but that doesn't necessarily stop the win now strategy.

Really the only example I can think of that was the opposite would be the suck for Luck year.

The rebuild is over.

Pretty soon we'll lose players like Dugger, Peppers, Onwenu, Rham Stevenson, Hunter Henry, Diggs, who knows about Barmore, is Keion White going to resign? Regardless, I know all these players are replaceable, but that doesn't change the fact that the rebuild that started in 2021 has given us a bunch of mid-career players.

The time is NOW.

You have an open salary cap. Go back heavy into FA after this season.

Compete.

So I'm the person on the other board who supposedly took the side of rebuild, but my point was that if competition was close, Vrabel's going to go with the rookie, especially if it saves cap, and builds for the future.

So I don't see it as an either/or because, if the decision is close Vrabel will believe going with youth will achieve both by the end of the year.

Coaches are paid to produce wins. It might sound cliche by Vrabel will do whatever gives the team the best chance to win now, while also keeping an eye on the future. He will not sacrifice this years team on what might be in the future. Worst to first has happened a bunch in the NFL. No one predicted Wash to the NFCC game last year, absolutely no one. We have talent, we have coaching, we may have a stud QB in the making. The time is now.

The two concepts are not mutually exclusive...

Vrabel is rebuilding the team so it can compete & win this year...

It’s a rebuild until it’s clear Drake is the guy. IMO.

Every team in the league is both trying to win now and rebuild. Within a couple of years every team will have 50% turnover.
You put the best players on the field and coach up the young ones to become one of the best players.

First, the offense has to do offense-type things. So much so that the opposing DC stays up at nights trying to devise a system to stop the attack.

The Patriots ain’t anywhere near there. Some promise don’t score TDs.

And the OL remains a question mark. Will Campbell will obviously flame out at LT. He’s a guard with his Fantasy Island midget wingspan.

And I love the leadership Morgan Moses is bringing. But at his age Matt Light was already retired. Clearly, at the ninth inning of his career.

The QB is going to struggle with his accuracy. Was a problem his final year at UNC at times. His last game he stunk up the joint against NC State.

Tom Brady he ain’t. (Brady’s last game in college he carried the PeePee Pants to victory in a clearly more talented Alabama team on a New Year’s bowl in 2000 in New Orleans.)

And the kicker drafted who’s shanking or missing half his attempts? WTF is going on with that? Has anybody checked on his tats?

Anyone voting 'Win Now' is in for a very disappointing season. And a lot of angry words typed on the patsfans.com.

Based on? I'm sure everyone had the Pats winning the 2002 SB that pre-season, just like everyone had Wash going to the NFCC game last year.

Apparently Mayo did not get the message about rebuilding during the last game against buffalo in January.

With the pats when i think of winning i think of superbowls, or at least a deep run into the playoffs, not just making the playoffs. This team isn't that good yet, so they're still building. ...Yes i know im spoiled
