Reading the Tea Leaves on Mayo and Wolf (Personal Speculation)

Wolf looked at our defense and said nah why take a flier.

What are the tea leaves that suggest the Krafts are preparing to get rid of Mayo? When Bill was going, there were rumors everywhere that he would be fired, that Mayo would be coach and Wolf would be GM. There are no rumors this time. It’s just pundits saying Mayo should go. That’s not tea leaves, that’s just spilling the tea.
What you have to keep in mind is that all of those very accurate rumors last year were most likely being fed to reporters (mainly Curran, his buddy) directly by Mayo. Now that it’s Mayo himself on the hot seat, of course he’s not going to leak rumors out about himself that are bad. So we just have no leakers, and thus no info.

Maybe. I suspect that there are reporters with ties to the Krafts who could act as weather balloons if Kraft was considering it.

We have seen it to some extent. The party line used to be “he’s safe”, then it became “he’s safe unless there’s a disaster”, and now that there was a disaster, everything has been pretty dead quiet for 2 days. I’m guessing we won’t get another report at all this week and the Krafts will just wait and see what happens on Sunday, then make their decision the next day.

Maybe. I feel like Kraft made his decision after the Bills game. He saw what the team is capable of. I think that’s why it got quiet.

I would hope that people close to him and that he consults with make him realize that any idiot coach can scheme up a good performance against a good opponent if they spend enough time on it. The problem is if they are bad coaches, they then won’t have the time to really plan for the other games, so the performance will be god awful. That’s what we have seen this year. A lot of awful performances tentpoles by two better ones (Bengals, Bills) which came on the heels of a period of time when the coach would’ve had a lot of prep time (the offseason for CIN, and the bye week for BUF). The more important thing is consistency (as Mayo loves to say), and they’ve been consistently very bad with these very small glimpses of being OK many weeks apart.

Not sure what you mean. Who and why would he be stabbed in the back?

Parcells. Belichick. In both relationships I think Kraft, whether it was his own paranoia or not, felt the employee had turned on him.

I think that had a lot to do with the documentary. Kraft felt he had to fight back from whatever Bill was doing behind the scenes against him.

I'm not saying Kraft is right about this, but I think he is unlikely to hand the team over to someone he is not close with.

I see what you are saying. Yea makes sense.

I agree with Tom Curran. Either every main personnel person stays (Mayo, Wolf, Covington, and VP) or all of them are gone.

I don't know what happens, but I'm hoping is the Comet treatment.

If Curran is still plugged into the Krafts at all and he has reason to think these are the two paths they see, then that is good, because those really are the only two paths available. And I think it will be patently obvious to them which path is correct, even if it is personally hard to go through with. Kraft may even get some respect for making "the hard choice".

Time to throw the Mayo out and we are willing and Vrabel.
Will that catch on willing and Vrabel?
I love the idea of an offensive mastermind hc but but this team needs a kick in the mouth and some teeth knocked out and that’s Mike Vrabel.
I don’t know how the Moores, Kingsburys, Brady’s, Johnson’s are.

Kliff Kingsbury sucks.

Wow so maybe Mayo is just a token coach like when he was placed on a hospital medical board of trustees and said he didnt understand what they were talking about at the meetings.

Cleaning house is the only good choice. If you keep Mayo, he will be on a hot white seat at the start of next season and what do you do when the first month of the season is a disaster ?

Keeping Mayo will not attract top talent to the Patriots. There is 0 advantage keeping Mayo.

When your biggest accomplishment as a HC in a season is able to avoid being fired mid season. It says it all!

What a joke this organization has become

Weather what storm? He's got the worst record in the NFL!

Yeah this quote is so bad it hurts.

Top accomplishments in 2024:
1. Didn’t get fired midseason
2. Guys came to work and didn’t just stop showing up, well except for Chuks I guess lol
3. Uh anyway that’s all

I fear Kraft has decided to keep Mayo as the talking points out of the usual sources is to do with them not doing enough to help him and some more experience heads should come in.

Not getting rid of Mayo now and clearing house is going to be a catastrophic error. Instead what will happen is AVP will be axed. Mayo will be a lame duck head coach who can’t find a good coordinator to come in. Mayo will eventually get canned next year, giving Maye his 3rd OC in 3 years.

The reality is that if Mayo was on the market now he would not even get an interview for an HC job. We can all see he’s not suited to the role and cutting the cord now is the sensible decision to take.

If the Krafts are incapable of making the correct decision, that being cleaning house, then the fans should punish their bottom line buy not showing up to games. That's the only currency the obscenely wealthy understand.
