I wouldn't term Douglas a lock quite yet. Although, I hope he ends up that way, same with Boutte. Maybe they end up carrying six WRs.
BornAgainNumbnuts thinks Zappe played great tonight but everyone else really sucked. You were there...did YOU notice a change in the team's offense in any respect when Cunningham finally debuted?

Our QB room may be in the bottom 5 of the league. Zappe is not who some think he is. Malik is a fun gadget guy, but far from being able to run a fully integrated offense. McSorely is an embarrassment to this franchise. There's better camp arms.
Serious question - if Wentz or Foles would come for cheap, which would you take as a vet QB2 over Zappe?

A debacle for sure for the OL, but context is significant here. They played 60 minutes with only two OL who have played any snaps in an actual NFL game lined up against actual NFL starters, namely McDermott and Ferentz who have spent years proving they are practice squad level players. Ferentz played a couple of series from what I could see. McDermott and Steuben do not have the skill set needed to play LT. All the others are 1st or 2nd year guys picked in the 4th round or later (or UDFA like Russey).

It will be interesting to see if Brown and Strange get back on the field next week. Otherwise we will see if Rieff is viable at all anymore. I am not expecting to see Anderson in a Patriots uniform this year and am simply hoping his illness is something he can recover from, irrespective of what it means for him for footbal.

The OL looked about how i'd expect with missing our top 6 projected players.

I'm really discouraged that none of the new draftees or young lineman looked good enough to even be a jag.

Steuber really looked like the best young offensive lineman.

Pats pass rush is going to be a major problem for opponents this year, even moreso than last year. Judon/Uche/Wise/Barmore/White. Giddy-up.

You are seriously overestimating the quality of the backup QBs in the NFL.

Yeah, it was basically:

Practice squad right tackle, playing left tackle

Versus

Will Anderson Jr

Yeah this post is a strange one. I am not sure why people are suddenly dumping on Zappe because he couldn’t generate offense behind the 3rd/4th string OL going against Houston’s top and 2nd unit… Malik played in the 4th, I doubt he would’ve done any better in Zappe’s place.

Those guys are going to look better with more experience, and they will benefit from having a good player next to them when it counts.

body language...Zappe is a never was/never will be. He showed his belly in the 2nd half of the Bears game. The sooner they cut bait the better their back-up QB situation will be

Starting LT? Didn’t play.
Starting LG? Didn’t play.
Starting C? Didn’t play.
Starting RG? Didn’t play.
Starting RT? Didn’t play.

Backup LT? Didn’t play.
Backup LG? Assuming it’s Bill Murray, didn’t play.
Backup C? Played one or two series.
Backup RG? Played.
Backup RT? Played - but he played LT, not RT.

They were down their top OL and then also down three out of five of their backup OL, and after a couple series, four out of five. And the one backup that did play more than a couple series - Russey - got hurt and left.

The sad thing is that Zappe is better equipped than Mac to play behind a **** OL.

Trent Brown, Strange, Andrews, Onwenu better stay healthy once they get healthy.

The only thing Zappe will be doing this year is watching Mac have sex with his girl, buster

Did anyone notice if Hines played? I haven’t seen his name mentioned at all since camp started, so I’m assuming he’s already circling the drain. Ugh.

At least all the Zappe fans will disappear.
But the bigger problem is how bad our 2nd string OL is. Mac might not look any better unless all the starters get healed quick.

On the plus side - our D should be very good. CG had a few mistakes, but overall good. And White is legit.
Why would Zappe fans disappear if, as you acknowledge, any effort by QB and skill players were meaningless behind that line?

Yup. Every team in the NFL would get the same result, or worse. This means nothing.
