Quick Reminder. I integrated this front-and-center to make it easy for a one-click to hide any threads you don't wish to see/participate in:

Hit this, and it immediately drops off:

You can toggle access to anything whenever you need to either in the left sidebar (desktop):

Or within the slide-out menu (desktop & mobile):

That will open up the list of any threads you're ignoring, and you can just uncheck them to take them off ignore.

Getting geared up for the game day thread?

I know there are a couple of threads where this has come up, and I'm sure there will be a few more here and there depending on how the season goes. That was a key part of the redesign, so I want to make sure people take advantage of it if they need it.

I have got to say that I am finding 'Thread Ignore' to be a really powerful tool that really helps increase my engagement with the site.

All off-season I have been dropping in the site from time to time but sooner or later would find a thread that I turned me off so much with huge doses of negativism if not rancor or bitterness that I'd move on to another site.

Now that I can just make those threads disappear, the threads I want to read come to the top of the thread list so I stay a lot longer.

Now I use it as a general purpose filter and put threads I'm simply not interested in on Ignore, instead of using it just when I'm annoyed by a thread.

I think people may resist using it because it brings negative connotations of censorship, but what it really is is a thread priority tool.

I often ask people if they don't like a topic or a user why not use the mute/ignore functions, and the response often is them telling me that they are open-minded, value all points of view, and are able to ignore things that I am unable to ignore.

My perception of that is that they are flexing about how much better they are at the whole communications thing than I am, and maybe they are.

My point of view is that I'm here to have enjoyable interactions, not to test how good I am at tolerating the deep negativism we often encounter, so I find block/ignore tools to be really helpful.

And of course other people can find my opinions on some topics are deeply negative, and if it gets to the point of them making is so they are not enjoying this site I hope they block/ignore me as needed too.

Regardless, yet again, thanks for all the things you do to keep this site so useful!

Re: left sidebar (desktop): This is something I'm not seeing on my desktop (Chrome on Linux).

Is there a setting for it that I may have disabled?

Or maybe an ad blocker is removing it?

I ignore threads...not people. Thank you for all you do to keep the site running great Ian

Depends on your screen resolution. If you've also zoomed in on your browser to make your text larger (which I also tend to do on my laptop because I'm blind and reading small text is becoming difficult), it may not be there. But if that's the case, no worries. You can still use the button in the regular slideout menu to view / edit them.

That's exactly what I did. Thanks for the info!

Quick question. So even though someone ignores a thread, it can still appear as one of the top threads on the front page, right?

Yes. I don't have user preferences tapped into that, unfortunately.

I use the thread ignore all the time, probably my favorite upgrade.
Mute is also pretty helpful

Probably plenty of folks that could have gotten a lot out of that... if they weren't already ignoring your curmudgeonly ass.
(j/k nothin' but love really, I just find low hanging fruit so irresistible)

I keep trying to bribe @Ian to give me the list of most ignored members, but so far no joy.

I mean, a man has to have goals, right?

Save your money, far and away away it's me. Those rat bahstids @Steve102 and @Ross12 are a distant 2nd & 3rd respectively
I told @Ian it's okay to tell everyone I pay him a monthly surcharge to keep from being banned. Just so long as @Clonamery @RobertWeathers and fnord have to pay at least half what I do you won't catch me *****in' about it

I would like to suggest a feature where we can see how many people have blocked or muted a particular poster. Ideally, it would be public, but even if only visible to the subject poster, it would give him/her visibility to how they're perceived by the community.

I'm in. Screw this polite air of camaraderie BS, I'm always up for a good ol' public shaming. A Scarlett 'B' followed by a number perhaps? Maybe a tar bucket with the number printed on it and a few loose feathers to add an artistic touch?

Thank you for this Ian, I never realized it existed. Just made a few threads disappear.
