In all honesty, how many more millions of dollars would it take for you to choose the Jets over New England? If NE is offering you $10 million, NYJ may have to be $15 million as you can tell from here it's going to be a miserable couple of years. Pittsburgh at least looks to be on track for a winning season at least.

Thats where High needs to make sure the "Respect-O-Meter" is working and be honest with himself as to what his definition of "respect". Is $10m disrespectful and he feels the NEP are trying to take advantage of him or is $10m good enough because he knows damn well $15m from the Jets carries with it a helluva lot more organizational uncertainty and losing?

IMO besides money, respect means ownership and the organization is doing its absolute best in putting a great team on the field every year. Players want to win. They want to have a great experience and work along side other players who have the same goals, work hard and sacrifice their personal goals for the good of the team.

We know that happens in New England.

Its clear that is missing in Jets-land.

I think it's reasonable for High to expect to be paid market but the problem is the NYJ typically struggle with what "market" is as they seem to bid against themselves often. He needs to ask that question as well.

Well if he signs today, my predicition of when it would happen would be off juuuuuuuuust a hair - 5 days to be exact.

I think we need to stop with any "sign for less" stuff. If he signs with the Pats, it won't be for "less", it will be for the market. At the start of FA, we all thought he'd be signed somewhere in the $12-13MM/yr market. I think one of BB's underrated skills is his sense of where the ACTUAL market of a player really is.

We all thought the $10MM/ offer was lowballing him, but based on what we are hearing, it was right on the money. He did the same with Welker. He likely knew that Ryan would get $10MM/yr and decided that was too much. It looks like he was right on Harmon too.

Now I don't know if BB makes the market judgements or if it is done by some people on his staff. It's probably the latter. But whoever is the person to does it, they need to take a bow, because he is really really good.

BTW- I think IF he comes home with a deal that will be initially reported as being in the $11-12MM range (agent asskissing), but upon close review will end up being a lot closer to $10MM in really money and end up counting $7-8MM on this year's cap, leaving us a LOT of space left to fill.

1 mil difference(based on hypothetical contracts floating about)? it doesnt make sense to me to move. uprooting your family for a 10% raise. then you factor in losing the playoff bonuses, in addition to the perks of being on a winning team you know.

Let's be real, if he's not re-signing here and he's hell bent on leaving, having him rot on the Jets for the rest of his prime is a whole lot better than bolstering the Steelers D and making them better.

What Hightower have achieved in such a short NFL time is more than some Hofers can even dream of. He's definitely all about the $$$$ now so I don't expect him to stay the Jets can easily up the ante and give him much more $$$ upfront we are talking about a set for life Revis type Signing Bonus. If he goes I ain't going to miss him we shall overcome.

Think we're trying too hard to relate this to an every day job. It's not like an office job where you are told to do things out of your job descriptiom and work ****ty hours for better pay far from home vs lesser pay but better hours, closer to home, good co workers, etc. It's football. He'll get to play a sport for a living. Tackling someone in a Jets uniform vs a Pats uniform isn't all that different. Maybe if we're talking snap counts or something it factors in but otherwise it isnt that relatable IMO
