This article addresses hits, sacks pass attempts and overall punishment level on QB's(maybe a it more). I'm on my way to the airport and only read the first paragraph so i haven't formed an opinion of the material. Interesting topic.
note: It doesn't address penalties.
Sacks, QB hits and QB mobility/escapability - Mile High Report
Really interesting find. The conclusions were:
1. Having a mobile QB will not lead to fewer sacks
2. Having a mobile QB will not lead to fewer QB hits, and generally leads to more QB hits
3. Teams with high QB punishment rates rarely have winning records
4. Having a good running game does not mean your QB will take less punishment
Pittsburgh does have one of the worst OLs and Ben is hit roughly twice as much as Brady, which may be the source of so much of his stupidity. From the earlier ESPN article, he gets a RTP call 0.2 out of 100 calls, compared to Brady at 0.16.
But that doesn't tell us the full story, like how many times Ben tries to keep a play alive instead of throwing it away, or situation dictating play calling (Brady has thrown 149 attempts while leading vs. 30 while trailing, compared to Ben throwing 87 attempts each while leading and trailing).
I'm classifying this in the same category as Vick crying about the lack of calls despite being in the top 10 for calls per attempt.
