Ranking Our Recent 1st Round Draft Picks

1.) Seymour
2.) Warren (I agree with someone else that he might challenge for the top spot before it is over. He is the Pats' best steal in the first round because he is better than all the DTs taken before him even Kevin Williams who started out really strong and has faded the last few years)
3.) Wilfork (Although I think he is third in impact to the team, he may be first in terms of value because finding NTs for the 3-4 is very, very difficult compared to other positions)
4.) Mankins
5.) Watson (He could move up this year with Moss, Stallworth, and Welker to help take away the double teams. I also think his drops last year were a bit overstated)
6.) Graham (would put over Watson, but was far too injured during his Pats career)
7.) Maroney (could be much higher, but one year is tough to go on)

My listing of these players would be:

Outside of Watson, I can't believe how well we've done in the first round... like others, it is sort of amazing when you look at it on paper like that! And Watson was the second of two picks in Round 1... makes it look even better to me!

I think that Maroney could move up.... but it would be awfully tough to pass the first four on the list.

I think that too many folks are pushing Warren too high on their lists. I think that he is a game... respect his game, love to see him on the Pats.... consider him (with Wilfork) a must-sign (unless BB and Pioli tell me diff.... and then I'll yield to their op!!!!), but the def. is built around the play of Seymour.... and Wilfork might be the most imp. guy on our whole D. I'd take our D line over any in football... and I think that Warren would be the #1 guy on some other D lines... but we are fully stacked at the position.... having Warren #3 on our line is just ridiculous... but there he is!

I do not believe that anyone will be able to replace Seymour as #1 on this list (although I hope that we can have that debate for years to come... go Maroney!)... the only player that I could see doing it (barring some phenom. play from Maroney) would be big Vince.... like Seymour, he's a monster, but plays his position... both players can control, mold and modify games without getting a single tackle.

Just my op, though! Everyone is entitled to their own, right!

2) Warren (to me, he and Wilfork are even as players, but the edge goes to the Warren selection due to the circumstances of that draft. Recall, the Jest traded up to draft Bowling Ball with Knives because there was a rumor out there that the Pats were very high on Robertson and were themselves considering a trade up in order to draft the guy. When all was said and done, Warren turned out to be a much better player and of course, nobody from the Pats had any clue as to how such rumors got started.)

What I loved about that draft was that people specilater that we were enamored with Robertson, Williams, Sullivan and Kennedy, there was a run on defensive tackles, but 3 of those guys turned out to be busts. While Warren might not be Kevin Williams, he's very close.

Hell yes, Wilfork behind Mankins. Mankins should have been All-Pro last year. Wilfork is good, but Warren is the best D-lineman we have currently.

Watson can be the best TE in the leauge. This was basically his first season as being the number 1 target. It takes time to build that chemistry and that confidence. Watson is one of the most atheltic TE's in the game.

I'll tell you what (and I hope I eat my words)... I'm not a Watson fan. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... anyone can drop a ball, but if he keeps tipping balls up in the air for any defensive back (or even LB) to just pick out of the air... he can't be a good thing. If we're talking about a battle for athletes, he wins hands down (pun intended)... but if we're talking about NFL TEs, one thing they have to do is catch the ball (and if that isn't possible, knock it down so NO ONE catches the ball).

I can't be the only guy who has his heart in his throat when TB throws a quick out to Watson.... when he tips that ball up in the middle of the field, it's a mad dash for the defenders to grab that TO.

I HOPE that I'm wrong and that he stops this frustrating tendancy and just catches the ball!!! Heck, if he can just shadow Troy Brown for a fe minues and figure out how to knock the ball down if he can't catch it... I'm all for him. But right now, I'd rather have a #1 TE that can't get open... than have a guy who is a liab. to give the ball over to the defense even with TB throwing him the ball.

Just my op.... and I'll be cheering for him along with everyone else on Sundays... he is, after all, a Patriot.

No way is Warren better than Seymour. You cant just look at stats or judge by 1 year of play. Seymour gets doubled way more than Warren..Wilfork gets doubled a lot too

Seymour has had injuries over last few years..its safe to say he gets nicked up quiet a bit but hes still a beast. Its a lot harder to judge a 3-4 DE because their responsbilities. Seymour said it himself..fans can watch the game and say what he is doing? They wont understand because they have different things they are supposed to do like get to a certain spot to open up lanes for the LBs.

Kevin Williams faded? You realize the reason Vikings run D was amazing was because him and Pat Williams? Hes a hell of a DT and hes tremendous imo.

agreed about Waton's drops being overstated. The times he turned it over were when he fumbled(which went into the air to Tillman i think against Bears)..i think people are g etting a little mixed up. Watson is certainly better than given credit around here. He got doubled last year a lot . His consistency can be argued that it needs to improve but his speed and strength make him tough to defend. Consistency and blocking need work. Hands are better than people think

I for one have to admit I now get nervous when I see the ball heading towards Watson. I expect it to ricochet. I will always have hope for him because of the effort he gave to chase down Champ Bailey. I heard Shanahan told his team it was the greatest football effort he had ever seen.

Saying Warren is better than Seymour right now is like saying Asante Samuel is better than Nathan Vasher or Dre Bly - Not enough play yet to say it either way.
