How would Seymour and Warren do if they played Defensive Tackle in a 4-3 Defense??

Richard Seymour is 6 foot 6 and 310 Pounds.

Ty Warren is 6 foot 5 and 300 Pounds.

Both were drafted as Defensive Tackles coming out of college.

I believe both Seymour and Warren would be solid if they played DT in a 4-3. What do you guys think?

Eh...neither one of them are really big enough.

Of course they're big enough. They would do very well, they're versatile, athletic, big guys who can play any position on the line.

thats the problem with finding guys for a 3-4. they are odd sized compared to the norm. too small for one, too big for another, but just right for bill. its like trying to ask how vrabel would do as a defensive end. too small, but too big for a normal outside backer.

usually a guy has to be within the criteria for a body type. there are a few exceptions, but i dont think this is one of them. the two are odd-sized for your typical 4-3, much smaller than the average tackle, yet bigger than your average end.

Check out 4-3 teams and look at their DT. They're frequently lighter than Warren/Seymour. Admittedly they're shorter too but Seymour played a lot of NT in 2001 as did Warren at A&M. They aren't too small to play DT, they may be a touch tall but that's OK - Marcus Stroud is 6'6", 306.

Judging by how the team fared when they went to a 4-3 earlier in the season-not well.

Aside from the fact that we don't have a real MLB and Seymour and Warren weren't the DT combo in those sets, that's a good arguement Mike Wright was often one of the DT. If we had another Jarvis Green type, two Greens at DE along with Seymour and Warren would be very effective DL.

Seymour and Warren would dominate as interior tackles. They are the perfect size for that. I am baffled that anyone would think otherwise.

Why would we want to leave Vince out of the line up?

Playing 3-4 DE is very similar to 4-3 DT. Much more similar than 4-3 DE.
The way we play 2 gap, they would basically do the exact same thing, but be aligned over the G instead of the T if we played 4-3. Basically no difference, with one exception. When we play 3-4, the Ts having to block Seynmour and Warren create better pass rush matchiups for the 4th rusher (one of the OLBs). Part of the idea is that the T have to account for the huge DE across from them, so instead of Ts blocker smaller 4-3 DEs or 3-4 OLBs, we create mismatches where they must either slide coverage or use a RB on the OLB. Seymour and Warren CONTRIBUTE TO a ton of the sacks that our OLBs get.
