Prediction: We'll Sign 2 Players By Tomorrow

From this point, until tomorrow, one.

Honey badger... I hope... ??? Depends on the price, of course.

I'm with you here. It's 1:40PM right now, and I suspect the Patriots already have one external free agent under agreement. Except that due to various factors (BB secretive nature, the Goodell rules-for-the-teams-I-like-and-rules-for-the-Patriots factor), no one knows about it and if that player's agent leaks it the deal is off. That happened in 2013 when it turned out the Patriots had landed Amendola before Welker had left, when at the time the sequence appeared to be the other way around.

Don't worry folks, we always own Day 2 and Day 3 of free agency!

We'll sign at least 2. But will any actually be big enough signings to put a dent on the caps top 51?

Here's my two FA signees by tomorrow:

TE Antonio Gates

QB AJ McCarron - he'd be a great backup/understudy to Brady who has the ability to step in when the time is right. I also expect the Patriots to select a QB with one of the two second round picks.

two - an under the radar good value linebacker and a DB of some sort

I know they'll sign Ebner. Maybe Slater

Suh & Murphy

Reserve List: Honey Badger & Vaccaro

This would be disappointing. Talk about wasting Brady's last few years. Several million dollars of valuable, limited cap space on Andy Dalton's former clipboard holder and a top draft pick on another QB? I'll take a 6th Super Bowl since I think most of us could handle that in exchange for finishing bottom 10 in the league for 1 year after Brady retires, rather than playing it safe while Super Bowl chances are at an all time high.

The odds of such a seamless, Favre to Rodgers type of transition are slim and rare. Is it really worth holding back on building a 6th Super Bowl winning team around Brady to try achieving it anyway?

I would be happy with Nelson and Mathieu, but probably neither will be affordable.

If we get Suh and Murphy, that will completely change the complexity of the defense.

And for the better.
