Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

I dunno. I remember a certain game where we went into Buffalo looking to start the season with an easy win and got our butts handed to us at 31-0
Huh? The 2003 Pats team was in turmoil following the Milloy cut. THere were multiple predictions right here of a 0-16 season. The Bills had beefed up their defense with Takeo Spikes, etc. The Bills had gone 8-8 in 2002 and some predicted them to take over the division. After the Pats let-down season in 2002, many thought them one-and-done in the superbowl.

The Pats weren't expected by hardly anyone to win that game, never mind win easily. It was the lop-sided score and Milloy's comments that turned the team around.

But you could be right. Any given Sunday and all that. Still, I disagree that the Bills have much of a chance and it would be the upset of the year for them to win unless they take out Brady in the first quarter. Even then, I think the Pats with Hoyer can beat the Bills on Monday.

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

Hey peeps, sorry to go miles off topic but..

Being from England its almost impossible to watch college football, and I really want to start following/learning more about this part of the sport, could anybody suggest a really good website i could visit for regular updates? I've obviosuly tried www.ncaafootball.com but it just seems a bit basic, is there anything better?

Thanks

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

The offense should have no trouble scoring. I cant wait to see Brady in action again. We havent lost a regular season game when he starts since Dec 2006. I am a little worried and have a bad feeling of how our secondary will perform. Hopefully BB wasnt showing the packages he is using for the regular season, and that's why the secondary was less than good in preseason.

I NEVER take any game for granted, or easy, because, as has been demonstrated time and again, one never knows which team will show up on any given Sunday. That's why my cardiologist hates my obsession with football..

Very true, but you can count the games we lost to bad or mediocre teams with Tom Brady at QB on one hand.
IIRC the Miami loss in 04 was the first loss by a Braqdy team to a team that finished under 500, and there havent been many since.
While no one is immune to upset a Brady team is more imune than any.

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

RE: #2, I think we'll contain Jackson.. he surprised us last season, but BB is unlikely to let that happen again. I see our four men do gap cancellation on run plays (after all isn't that similar to DL responsibility in 2 gap 3-4?).

I too am interested in seeing how they will handle TO and Evans. My guess is a lot of LOS jamming, try to get TO out of the game. I see Buffalo going right to TO right away to try to get him actively involved.

In regard to the rookie OL for the Bills, I would hope our DL pulls some tricks to induce NZ infraction every now and then. Sey used to pull the old sudden 3 point stance flip to incur the false start.

I opened a thread that has long since disappeared with the question of what do you do with Evans/TO, neither of who you can leave in single coverage for too long.. or do they risk leaving Springs one on one with TO and roll double to Evans? After all they did leave TO in a lot of one on one coverage in Dallas '07 and opted instead, to stop Witten.

Am I off the mark? Comments?

I dont think you have to worry about one on one, we will be playing a lot of zone.
Evans could get deep when we play man on 3rd down, IF the OL can hold the blitz, but TO is not a deep threat.

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

Just another example of fans over valuing THEIR players. He's #2 by default. Yes he looked good in the FOURTH preseason game. The game LEAST indicative of real play. Yes he's a great story, but please. Are roster spots so easy to come by that a team would "waste" one on a kid, who is a few years, MIGHT be another Chad Pennington. Listen I like the kid. I think in a couple of years he WOULD be a legit #2. But he's NEVER going to be Brady's replacement. That QB is probably still in HS.

I think the risk is minimal, especially in a few weeks, when rosters will be even more in place.

Not to mention they would be cutting a QB that survived their camp, knows their system and is 'their own Hoyer'

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

Why would anyone take the opening game for granted? Buffalo always plays us tough. Crazy talk. How can you not be excited about the opening game? GEEZ!!!!!!!!!!
I think the last time Bufflo beat us was that 2003 game you are talking about. Oh, I'm very excited about this game. I've looked forward to it for months. But why pretend the the Bills are the Steelers? Clearly, they are not, and if you are concerned about the Bills game, what will you do when we play strong teams?

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

I think the Bills speed on defense causes problems for the Pats spread offense that they generally like to run, so therefore I think the running game will need to be a factor.

On the otherside of the ball the Patriots just need to avoid the big play as usual. TO is still a threat to take it to the house at any time, so sure tackling will be imperative.

I am very concerned about Aaron Schobel. I have not heard any game planning for keeping him away from Brady. Hasn't he sacked Brady more than any other player in the league? Will Baker be kept in to block more often? I know I would do that just until Brady gets comfortable again.

Re: pre-game thoughts....Buffalo

Umm hate to tell you I told you so but I am!

Schobel scored more points than Lawrence Maroney did.

Go Pats!

I think Buffalo actually has a chance to win tonight, although, I think that Pats will win a close one at the end.
