Pre-Free Agency 2023

Better to pay in free market rather than trade premium assets and also pay for game changer when this year is to evaluate mac's talent .

I would say build a competitive team but don't go overboard . The problem I see is we severely do not know how to evaluate offensive playmakers both in Draft and ib FA . I would just bolster the defense and get some offensive talent with high potential .

Is Higgins a true wr 1 or was jamarr chase making him look better . So to expend 14th pick + 25 million a year for Higgins is super risky. Similar to jets leveon bell contract.
Totally agree!!! I can't beat the Ramsey drum enough.. allow us to become dominant on defense by today's NFL standards and have a top ten offense like in 2021.. that formula can equate to success!!

Bring that BC eagle back to New England where he belongs!

I think he played right tackle for the majority of his time here.
He did that's true he played LT for a long stretch for a while due to injuries

Vollemer played LT for a long stretch...
No, he didn't. He was a spot starter at LT when needed, but the majority of his starts were at RT.

Charean Williams of Pro Football talk published their list of the top 100 free agents... can read the full list, just hit the link

The Patriots on the list are:
19. Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers (the top WR available)
27. Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones (3rd ranked CB)
49. Patriots offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn ( i think right about now she finished her first bottle of wine, one of those big magnums)

interesting to note, least to me, the following WRs on the list
36. Packers receiver Allen Lazard
42. Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster
53. Free agent receiver Odell Beckham
59. Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman
70. Saints receiver Michael Thomas
87. Colts receiver Parris Campbell
90. Giants receiver Darius Slayton

Juju is still only 27 and could be had cheaper than someone like Meyers

Michael Thomas would be a legit #1, his production has been elite his entire career. The only drop was the last 2 years because of injury/suspension

When he came back this year from 6 game suspension he immediately became their #1 target and was getting 80-100+ yards a week

Pass on Parris Campbell... The more i look, the more he reminds me of another under performing clots receiver we took a flyer on, Phillip Dorsett... just blah all the way around...
We had traded for Dorsett because we had too many QB's on the roster and we didn't need Brissett anymore. Campbell we could probably sign to a reasonable low money deal that would cost nothing if he didn't play due to injury. He doesn't have any leverage due to his injury history.

why waste a roster spot on a what if?

he may be decent... i honestly dont know... i honestly dont care to find out ... ymmv

I wonder what Miles Sanders will command in FA, he could be a great 3rd down back for us but will probably make a lot

I miss James White

I think he only played left when Matt Light and Nate Soldier were hurt. He played on the right side when those two guys were healthy. Anyway, it doesn't really matter the original point of the post you responded to was that the Pats should shell out big money for a left tackle and I whole heartedly agree.

You invite 90 guys to camp, over time you whittle that down the 53.

The goal is to bring as many talented athletic players to camp as possible and build a great roster. If he costs you nothing and has serious upside, which he does, then you bring guys like that in. Value vets that other teams don't covet as much because you can afford a lot of them. The 2001 team was largely made up of value vets nobody else wanted.

Over the years we brought in guys like Vrabel, Nincovich, Lawrence Guy, etc... no name free agent guys other teams didn't want because they didn't have a large body of work and they panned out. We want talent and speed, Campbell has both.

What’s wrong with paying a legit LT? It’s one of those positions I’d happily throw fat stacks of cash at for a legit player

We paid Matt Light and Nate Solder pretty well
Agreed. What LT is available?

Talented being the key word... To me, hes a jag & as I said, ymmv... To each their own in other words...

I think our struggles with FA will have more to do with things like climate, state income tax and contender status more so than any perceived tough coaching from Bill and Bob
I agree in part. The climate and taxes are big factors but connection with coaches is also a contributing factor. Florida has huge advantage in UFA. All other things being equal, will be tough to sign UFA if it comes down to Miami or NE

Best to plan for this challenge

would you like me to link you the Patriots game books starting in 2013? you can go game by game and see who the starters were...
I got the information.. alot of posters not yourself.. don't realize he played left tackle for a good stretch of the season in place of Matt Light.. however yes I agree he was was starting right tackle and moved over to left due to need from injury.. he was excellent there!

That was his rookie season, where he was used as a swing tackle...

Yea sir, we are on the same page... I was just making mention that he played left tackle for a stretch as you said due to injury. I do agree on paying a LT.. the frustrating thing is we have a massive LT in brown who has shown he can be dominant.. he's still young, maybe klemm can get this guy motivated again like he was under scar... ?

Yes correct, the guy was one of the best all around lineman.. he moved the line of scrimmage...
