With cut down time coming the practice squad is always a big topic of conversation, whether players would get claimed before making it the practice squad, etc.

Who are the best players to come from a practice squad start?
I can’t think of many that contributed a lot.

Tom Ashworth was plucked off the 49ers practice squad and started a SB win.
Others?

Danny Amendola was a practice squad player, but made rosters outside of NE prior to coming here.

Kyle Arrington played for Philadelphia’s and TB’s practice squad before signing with NE and making their practice squad. Was promoted to the 53 when Eric Mangini on the Browns tried signing him to their 53. He played CB for a SB winner, but was benched mid-game for Malcolm Butler.

Ryan Wendell started out on the Patriots practice squad, and eventually made the team a few years later and was the starting LG for that same SB win.

Dan Connolly initially made the Jacksonville 53 and played most of a season for them before being cut. Signed with NE in the offseason, landed on our practice squad. Wound up being starting RG for yet again that same SB win.

Dan Connolly is the first that came to my mind.

He began with Jacksonville, was waived, spent a year on the Pats practice squad being educated by Professor Scar.

BJGE was on the practice squad for a while too.

IIRC Chris hogan was on a couple other team's practice squads, including Buffalo's.

Troy Brown

Was he on the practice squad?

I thought he was cut and re-signed midseason.
Yeah I think you are correct. I got him being cut and the practice squad mixed up.

James Harrison. Steelers couldn't make up their minds. Ravens had him as well, but cut him.

Cameron Wake. One of the best pass rushers in the game during his time.

Kurt Warner. One of the biggest goofs by teams aside from Tom Brady of all time.

Arian Foster. He was a product of the system, but he was successful.

Jason Peters. One of the best T's in the game.

Tony Richardson. One of the best FB's of all time.

Rod Smith. Broncos don't don't win back to back Super Bowl's without him emerging.

Jimmy Smith. Him and McCardell were one of the best tandems of the 90's.

Was Dion Lewis a practice squad guy early in his career? I honestly can’t remember. I remember he kind of came out of nowhere for NE.

Or Woodhead. He never made it to a PS but we claimed him when the Jets tried to put him on theirs. And while it wasn't exactly what the OP was asking I think it's valid in that cut downs are coming up and since our roster isn't the deepest there's a chance to find someone for our 53 on cut down from someone else trying to get a guy to their PS.

I think he was just injured a lot before coming here but not sure

He was just unemployed for most of 2014, not even on a PS

Yes, kind of amazing such a good talent was floating around. I think we claimed Woodhead off waivers and started him the next week. But Lewis and Woodhead are the exceptions that come around very infrequently.

Ben Brown was claimed of the Raiders' Practice Squad on October 10th.
After a year or so Brown might be a good backup. If Brown is starting that means we are still in rebuild mode and need better players.

Hopefully Wilson can move to Center and Sidy Sow can emerge at LG, but that is not looking likely. What happened to Sow?

Sow hasn't looked good this year after his injuries, ditto for Strange.

Ben Brown, last year's lowest ranked center, starting? Yep, we screwed up.

Like letting fourth round pick and heir apparent Jake Andrews go late April.

Why was that? Could someone ask Eliot Wolf?
