Post Combine Forum Mock Draft

If you have to find ways to get a player on the field should they be drafted in the first round?. A Guard or DT would have the starting spot if they were drafted in the first.
Shazier is to small at DE and unless Collins, Mayo or Hightower show up to camp in terrible shape he is not starting.

Starting on the defense means nothing. Sub packages now rule the day and Shazier would offer flexibility which should be viewed as a strength not a liability.

My biggest problem with drafting Shazier is he isn't going t start in the Base D or the Nickel D. His only playing is if Collins or Mayo get injured.

He can play safety in the base.

Well, Tuitt to SF made sense. But I have to admit, I was twisting the knife in the wound, a little.

You just want to make Lawrence Okoye expendable!

In these days of sub packages and hybrid defenses, Role players are just as important as starters. That's why Arrington is being payed a gazillion dollars to play the slot. I think the biggest need on this defense is speed which is exactly what Shazier provides.

Having said that, I do sympathise which is why, in my mock and in my vote up thread, I went with Hageman and Tuitt respectively. But, I am confident that Shazier will get enough snaps over the course of the year to be an impact player and that's what I want from a first round pick. impact!

Round two order.

33-Houston Texans
34-Washington Redskins
35-Cleveland Browns
36-Oakland Raiders
37-Atlanta Falcons
38-Tampa Bay Buccaneers
39-Jacksonville Jaguars
40-Minnesota Vikings

He wouldn't start in a Nickel or Dime. I view him strictly as a backup LB. Unless he plays over Mayo in Nickel formations he is not getting playing time and he is not big enough on the line.

That's if your stuck in the traditional 4-2-5 or 4-1-6 mindset. Let's not forget Bill was the same guy using the "bus stop" defense and experimenting with 3 safety formations back in 02 with victor green. Shazier would play a lot.

Washington is on the clock ... anybody? (I picked at 31 for SF)

How often are we going to pur 4 LBs on the field at the same time? BB isn't going to draft him to play safety if he doesn't have film there. We mainly played a Base/Nickel D last year.
My needs looks something like this
1. CB- Major Need- FA
2.OG- Major Need 1st- 2nd rnd
3. DT- Major Need 1st- 2nd rnd
4. WR- Minor Need- FA\ 6th round
5. TE-Minor Need- 3rd rnd
6. DE -Minor Need- FA
7.LB- Depth need- 4th rnd\ FA
8. RB- Depth need- FA

I can't really think of a worse pick than Shazier, that would pretty much ruin the draft for me. A second round linebacker too small to play the position in the first round. I would be so bummed.

If Shazier is a true 1st round talent, I don't have a big problem drafting him. However he is undersized compared to the usual prototype that BB goes after. And missing out on guys like Tuitt, Fuller, and Martin. Well that does hurt a lot... LOL

I picked for Seattle so.........

I'll say this. I'd prefer Martin but Shazier is a RARE athlete and definite first round talent.

With pick 34, Washington selects Allen Robinson. Cleveland is on the clock.

Cleveland selects Ka'Deem Carey RB

Oakland is OTC

Manx deserves all the credit. I just did the numbers counting.

What would your vote have been? I can back-edit the final tally.

I'm afraid my Timing seems to be out'f Sync with you guys, today. Sorry. :nooo:

Honestly, I'd really have to think about it. I haven't crafted a Big Board, as yet. I just finished the main Phase of Scouting Reports, this very morning, and slept like a Dog all day...

For what it's worth, I applaud y'all for going with Shazier. My impression at this point is that he could be an extraordinary Will Flanker for the next Decade, and the idea of him, Collins, and Mayo covering our 2nd Level in Pass Defense give me heart palpitations...in a good way!!

Based not on how I would rank them on my non existent Big Board, but rather on a fusion of said ethereal Big Board and what I speculate their chances of being available later might be, I might've gone with something like:

Ryan Shazier
Dominique Easley
Dee Ford

...But that's half-@$$ed, to put it kindly!!

Personally, if Aaron Donald is out of reach then Shazier + Easley is my defensive wet dream of choice. If Donald is within reach, then Donald-Christian Jones trumps all.

Oakland takes Dee Ford, DE, Auburn.

Atlanta is on the clock.
