1. Against faster, more pass oriented teams we could see a base with Collins - Mayo - Shazier (WILL), and Hightower getting reps at both MLB and DE. Shazier could also play MLB in this kind of scheme.

2. Shazier could also get reps at safety (or LB/S hybrid, a role the team has looked to fill for years) in a "big nickel" package.

3. Shazier could also get reps at WILL with Collins moving into a rub-rusher role.

4. Shazier could also get reps at DE in a NASCAR package.

5. Shazier could also play WILB in a 3-4 scheme.

He could play a safety/LB hybrid. He could play a cover LB allowing Jamie Collins to line up at DE in sub packages, he could play a stand up pass rusher or a leo. There's plenty of ways to get that explosiveness onto the field. He'd be a beast of a 3-4 ILB next to Hightower.

Great minds and all that.

I don't see Collins as a DE. I see him as a SLB and a LB in Nickel. High tower also at DE doesn't make sense to me as he struggled at SLB his rookie year. In nickel packages I think they will stick with Mayo and Collins, with CJ playing DT and a FA DE. In a 3-4 we have Ninko, High tower, Mayo and Collins at LB and the Pats have never drafted a LB/DE as small as him

Strictly on value.

1. Martin
2. Mosley
3. Shazier

No they haven't, but think on this. Two years ago BB personally worked out Lavonte David and they were supposedly ready to draft Bobby Wagner that year who's only four pounds heavier. Add in the fact that they've just cut Gregory and Shazier certainly has the athleticism to play a limited SS role and I don't think it completely out of the question.

In recent years, BB has either drafted elite athleticism or elite size (or a combination of both) with the first pick. Shazier fits the first of those criteria.

I think Collins is primarily a LB (and particularly a 4-3 SAM), but he gets moved all over the place including some snaps on the DL. Think Von Miller.

Hightower at DE may or may not make sense, but I wouldn't make that evaluation based on his rookie year.

It sounds like you think the defense is pretty well set. Not much room for anyone else.

Let's make a group executive decision to trade down with the Vikings for their 2nd and 3rd.

Updated running point totals:

- CJ Mosley 19 (HOT, KDPPF and Zimmy 1st place votes, Everlong 2nd, Mayo 3rd place vote)
- Ryan Shazier 18 (Mayo 1st and Manx, HOT, KDPPF and Zimmy 2nd place votes, Everlong 3rd)
- Zach Martin 17 (All22 and Everlong 1st place + Mayo and Ashley 2nd place votes, HOT 3rd place vote)

We seem to be getting a little separation. Clearly, the top 3-4 guys have no chance of being drafted by the Pats.

It doesn't make it a very even draft if we're the only team trading.

Works for me. We'd probably still have a chance at one of the players on our vote list, if not more.

Top 3. Tuitt for the win :rocker:

Interesting, considering almost all the media mocks have us taking Amaro that he hasn't received a single vote.

I was thinking of voting for Fuller but he didn't have a shot but he was in the mix of my thought process. If FA had started and Talib was gone I may have put him #1 coupling value and position of need.

Late in the season Collins played strictly SLB in the 4-3 and LB in nickel looks. Hightower also never played DE this year. I don't see were he would play in a base/nickel defense unless he played SS. The only starting spot in the base D that needs filling is DT.
Base D
RDE- Jones
NT- Wilfork, Siliga
DT- Kelly, Jones, Armstead
LDE- Ninko, Buchanan
SLB- Collins
MLB- Hightower
WLB- Mayo

Nickel D
RDE- Draft\FA
DT- Chandler Jones
DT- Kelly
LDE- Ninko
LB- Collins
LB- Mayo

Spots that need filled are DT (unless Kelly starts), DE (rotation and in Nickel and a 4th LB (backup, Dane Fletcher)

1 - R. Shazier
2 - D. Ford
3 - Z. Martin

At this point I don't see the value of any of the DTs or TEs still on the board.

I'll stick with what the tape says. He's much closer to Tony Moeaki than Rob Gronkowski.

I'm not sure anyone ever compared him to Gronkowski. He's not Ebron on tape but he gets open and makes catches. all the while being 265lbs. He's not my favourite player but he's better than you are suggesting.
