Until something happens one way or the other that seems to me like the only reasonable way to go about it. Clearly things could change quickly but thats true for any player that randomly suffers a season ending injury.

That being said without Thuney the quality of starters would obviously take a hit but we'd still have a lot of "depth" at OL.

Froholdt is a beast. He has very good technique but also has mental lapses from what we saw in preseason. Lazar pointed out in a couple video posts how well of a player he can be. He will be a starter eventually...just not sure it’s 2020 as he might need more time due to his injury. He can also play Center...which is where the Jete wanted him before we took him in the draft.

He played decent at 368. He’s 344 now. If he can get down to 330, we may have a RG.
Doubt it happens this year. But, a year with a pro S&C program and nutrition and he may be our RG in 2021, with Shaq sliding to LG.
34 3/8 inch arms should help in pass protection.

I love the potential versatility (OL/DL) that Onwenu presents. As the OP stated, BB could use him as NT run stuffer type in order to alleviate the loss of Shelton, Branch, Wilfork etc. Not quite sure if this is the plan, but it’s definitely intriguing.

Now that's a possibility I hadn't considered...Because unless Mason is injured/traded, OneMenu's not starting at the ONLY position on the OL he can even think of playing - RG - any time soon...
I suppose that cross-training at Center is also a possibility...but wouldn't that make him, like, the Heaviest Center of all time?

I like the suggestion (too lazy to check who said it) that Onwenu could be the (newly mandated by CBA) 8th gameday active OL and provide utility by taking DL snaps, or at least being on the DL depth chart. Plus, we need to replace Shelton somehow, so this could be insurance against Beau Allen not being any good.

I never said LT. I’m aware he’s a guard only.

I apologize for the typo; I meant LG.

IMO, the skill set required of the LG (usually college LT's) is much different than that of that of RG, traditionally the road grader position.

Onwenu is a 6th rounder. Making the team as a backup RG, with the possibility of playing some DT makes him extremely good value.

Not when we are in more serious need of OTs & Centers...And please do not bring up Herron or Dusty Woody...or Frodo...or Yawndy Cachoo...or Boney Tony...or McDermott...

Considering how the Pats love to have their IOL pull, I think there’s a distinct possibility they believe he can shed some pounds without losing any upper body strength. But, as mentioned, he could also be a project at DT. Lord knows it wouldn’t be the conversion that Edelman had in front of him when he went pro and he has the size to do it.

Of course you know best with regard to which 6th round offensive lineman has the best chance at making the patriot squad.

I think that’s a bit of a relic. I can’t see any reason why a LG should be more athletic than a RG. Unless they’re confident Thuney is staying, I have to think Onwenu was drafted as a potential starter. Which means he or Shaq would be playing at LG.

yes, a potential future starter at RG

I see no reason for a 6th rounder to be expected to be a starter or even Game Day backup in his rookie year. I don't know many 368 LG's, his playing weight. I understand that he was done to 344 for the combine tests.

Who are the heaviest LG's in the NFL?

Probably Brandon Brooks, DJ Fluker, Gabe Jackson, Denzelle Good & now Onwenu.

Larry Allen and Nate Newton were both about 6'3 340 pounds.
