It seems this year, more than any other season that BB has really come around to be more friendly, humanlike with his players and has not be the total sombie he once was. He is smiling more, and getting more emotional than I ever remember (even wearing that AFC East Championship hat was HUGE for him!). That being said, he is still the stern coach and leader and has all the respect in the world from his players. I just think he has found a way to be more personable and is enjoying it more. Maybe the death of his Dad and recent personal issues with his marriage have made him gain a newfound perspective. Whatever it is, I think this wiser updated version of BB realizes that it is OK to live in the moment and enjoy what you have. BB has a good gig in NE and the Krafts have been good to this man by trusting him and giving him control of this franchise. In turn BB has turned a doormat franchise into the most successful (recent), most respected franchise in professional sports!
I have always believed that he and Brady have a particularly close relationship although they keep it close to the vest. At times, you can see BB wants to just beam about Brady and go on and on about his leadership and poise, but he pulls back from too much praise as to keep with the 'team first' mentality that has made this team so special. Brady has never been shy about calling BB the greatest coach in NFL history and always spouts the utmost respect for BB and has complete trust in his coasch. I think when all is said and done and they are both in Canton making their induction speeches, we will hear the details of what each has meant to the other, but that comes after it is all done by again respecting the moment and the team. I SERIOUSLY doubt that BB will want to leave with what he has established with Tom Brady. BB and Brady could go down as the best coach and QB in the history of the NFL and they are just in the middle of this run -with Brady only 29 and seemingly having his best prime years ahead of him. Together, they have developed quite a reputation for themselves and are the coach/qb tandem that NO ONE wants to face in the post season. I just heard Ray Lewis on ESPN radio and he said straight out that he did not want to face the Pats with BB developing the game plan and having Brady (who he called the Best, NO DOUBT) executing that game plan! I know most teams feel this way since they are so proven.
Let's face it, BB was not even a .500 coach before Brady and before BB, Brady was a 4th stringer 6th rounder - quite a team they make together and I think they both know what they have. Why ruin that???? Eli Manning is going to be a nice player, but does he have 'IT'? Peyton doesn't even have it and I think he is the best pure passer ever! Tom Brady's come along once a generatation and teams spend lots of time, money and sleepless nights searching for the guy with 'IT' - BB has him, why walk away from 'IT'????
