I don't get how anyone can be a staunch defender based off of what we have seen so far. What is it that has you sold? What do opposing defenses/defensive coordinators have to worry about when it comes to Mac? What is a "signature" game from Mac? I don't hate the kid and I don't really think there is much difference between him and Zappe but I don't know how anyone can be all in on either of them.

I know there are other factors out of his control, but here are the QBs drafted in the last 2 years with the same or more 4th Quarter comebacks or Game winning drives than Mac's 1:

Pickett: 4
Ridder: 1
Skylar: 1
Purdy: 2

Lawrence: 6
ZWilson: 3
Fields: 2

We will see what they have to give up to get to 3.

We could see something similar to what SF dealt for Lance to move up from 12 to 3.

Like I said before, teams seeking to trade for the player have many good reasons to not leak that they're interested in the player. That's how bidding wars start, for one. If no one seems interested the price stays low. Leaks about teams being interested in a player frequently come from the team who holds the player. For instance, the story about the Pats having made an offer for Jerry Jeudy - that came from Denver, not New England.

There have been confirmations to a few journalists now that there were indeed trade discussions. The difference of course comes down to if he was "shopped". Florio is insistent that Belichick was the one initiating discussions but I have not seen that substantiated elsewhere.

Karen Gugregian from her reporting seems to feel that it's Mac's camp that made the leak. It's very funny the organization has yet to really say anything. Ownership sent out a letter and a statement after the season was over.

However nothing on this. Something to think about. With the draft and then OTAs soon afterwards. Is where the bonding starts with teams.

It's a wonder if Mac,BB and RK have resolved this. RK may genuinely like Mac wich I believe he does. It's alot easier to like a starting QB on a rookie deal. My opinion is makes no sense to trade him unless Lamar is a realistic option. However we know they won't pay 200 Million. What do you think?

If Jones can’t handle BB and co’s hard coaching, he has a snowball’s chance in hell of handling Vrabel, who is equal parts hardass and *******.

I fully acknowledge it’s not entirely clear if the stuff about Jones struggling with hard coaching and being particularly sensitive has merit.

But … it was reported recently that the coaching staff was told to go easy on Jones his first couple seasons, and that info coupled with his emotional reactions during games (not the outbursts, but rather the tearfulness, red-faced, quivering lip type of stuff) would lead me to believe he is in fact an emotionally sensitive person (which is completely fine, there is nothing wrong with that, just not sure Vrabel would be a good coaching fit based on that).

Yeah, I'd imagine 3 adults have already resolved this and they will leave all the speculation to us...

I think Mac showed he can be a capable NFL QB but I think he needs the circumstances around him to be near perfect for him to succeed and in the NFL that is not usually going to be the case. He also seems to let his emotions get the best of him instead of fueling him to be better the way truly great athletes do. My thing with Mac is I just don't think there is one thing he really has an advantage on over any other starting quarterback in the league. He just seems to be average to below average in every category. Granted Bill screwed him over last year and wasted a year of his development I don't really hold much hope he will be "the guy". At this point if things go the way I expect them to this year I really hope him and Bill are both gone by this time next season.

He doesn't need everything to be perfect, he just needs competent coaching.

Well put!!! It's just so frustrating thinking about last season so self inflicting. Saban is the president of Alabama coaching!!

I mentioned quite a number of pages back that my gut tells me the leak came from Mac's camp (and some deduction based on comments made by Doug Kyed on his podcast). If it did, then consider the timing here - Bill is asked about Mac at the league meetings and he responds that Mac will have to compete with Zappe. A week later, Mac's camp essentially leaks that Mac has been and is available for trade, and that Bill doesn't even want him so you can probably get him for cheap! Says something about he feels about things... if that is indeed what happened, anyway.

Maybe the reporting is entirely wrong, sure. Or maybe it’s accurate.

It’s also perfectly possible that Jones struggled with the coaching he received at Alabama at times, too. You seem to be working under the assumption that there were no issues in that regard, but I’m not sure that’s an accurate assumption to make. Just because he was successful doesn’t necessarily mean he had zero issues with the feedback/coaching he received.

Things aren’t always binary, humans are complex (particularly human psychology).
