PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

Stars aligning for TFB to come outa retirement one more time and play for 2 years and at least one more SUPERBOWL win for the Pats!
LFG!!!
All joking aside, imagine Dhop and Brady for 2 years... love to see it.

I was thinking about a fun scenario the other day: we are on our way to 11-6, make the playoffs - but QB1 blows out his ACL 2 weeks before the playoffs... would Tom come back for a month to get another one?

Back on topic, I can't see them moving on from Mac. Like why bother working out Macs BFF slade bolden the other day if they know Mac is finished here, or trying for Jeudy. Both strong Mac connections.

It’s interesting but the discussion 40 year Patsfan started about who will be available at # 14 has caused me to completely rethink where the Patriots are at, and the future at QB going forward.

With all these reports, you have to remember that everyone still hates the Patriots. We saw it with deflategate reporting, loads of false and exaggerated claims to destabilise the Patriot way.

It's in the interest of the media to make a circus out of nothing, 1 because they hate Bill and 2 because they know fans of the 31 eat it up like popcorn, and our fans also click it because we are there to defend the team.

Will be interested to see if anything actually comes of this, my guess is nothing will.

Where there is smoke there is fire.

I could see it. I blame Belichick for what happened last year offensively, but I could see Belichick looking at Jones and deciding that he doesn’t offer much more than Zappe, and moving on from him now. And I would rather have coach/ GM be decisive about it now than to let it linger. People can crap on it, but ironically it will be the same people who don’t want Jones anyway,

I’m not saying it’s true, I’m saying it wouldn’t surprise me. Do you rule it out altogether,
I think GM's shop all their players all the time. Even just for shts and grins.

Also Mac is going to be the starting QB for the Pats come September (barring injury or act of God).

If Belichick is looking long term, and he thinks Jones will never be worth the cost QB’s on a second contract are going for then he could well decide that moving decisively now is the best move for the long term future of the team.

Pardon me but I skipped from page one to nine.

Has there been an NFL team exec who has said, "Yeah, Bill gave us a call about Jones. ". Because if there hasn't then this to me is just another "hot take" designed to fill space and create content, drama and angst.

I saw a post on page one who reminded us that Florio's web sight for news is APTLY named "the rumor mill". as in this is what we heard, not necessarily what is true. He also mentioned, and it bears repeating, that most of Florio's best inside info comes from agents, who loyalty is NOT to the truth, but to the best interests of their clients. I am a daily reader of his site. It's where I go first to see what is happening in the NFL. But beyond the "news", I take stories like this with a grain of salt. Sometimes they turn out to be dead on, and sometimes NOT.

Now as for talk about Mac is going to be all bent out of shape because of this gossip, I have this to say. He is the one who CHOSE to pursue a career as a QB in the NFL. Well, along with the title comes with the FACT that you are going to get virtually criticized ALL the time, by someone. Everyone gets complaints about their play, their body language. They ALL have been subject to trade rumors and times where there have been rumors of them being dumped.

Brady had to go thru that, especially in college and did it with and with grace and competitiveness. I expect Mac to react to this by putting ANOTHER chip on his shoulder and come to camp with a ferocious determination to BE the starting QB of the Patriots and prove those naysayers wrong. BUT if THIS little rumor sends him crying for his agent and saying "Bill doesn't love me anymore, then F him.

So the only interesting thing I will look forward to from all this talk is how Mac reacts to it. The rest is just gossip.

I think that’s the most likely outcome, but in no way is it 100%

If Bill trades Mac, he’s not getting much. This team has quite a few holes yet to fill, and now you need to add QB to that list, because Zappe is going to have a helluva hill to climb to be a franchise guy. What do we see Bill doing? I could see him trading Mac, rolling with Zappe, maybe drafting a guy like Hooker, and signing a vet to hold you over? Go through the season in absolute mediocrity and hoping for the best next year with cap space etc. Either way, if he trades Mac, talk about a serious set back.

Yeah he may not be all in on Mac for the future. On the other hand - moving decisively is not leaking that your starting QB is for sale, while not having a plan to improve at the position.

So IMO either LJ is coming or this is media BS.

While it would be seen as a setback now it’s also going to be a setback when he decides not to pay him 40 million in a couple of years. And even though I have supported Jones in the past I honestly don’t think his ceiling is much any higher than Daniel Jones, and I never would have given Jones 40 million a year. Bottom line for me, I don’t care what Belichick decides, I’m more interested in the direction he takes the team from here on out:

Let’s not forget what Bill said about Zappe

Bailey made a lot of good decisions,” the Patriots head coach said during his postgame press conference. “Was accurate with the ball. Thought he showed some poise there in some pressure situations where he got out of it and found an open receiver, made good decisions.”
Belichick went on to pinpoint a specific trait Zappe possesses that will help him in his development.
“He does a good job of seeing the game and can come off and identify and articulate what he saw, what happened — and that’s usually right,” Belichick said. “What he saw is usually what I saw or, maybe, when you look at the film, maybe there’s something that’s a little gray in there, his explanation is actually good. It was the way he saw it. Maybe he might not have done the right thing, but he saw the game.
