Peyton Manning - worst SB winning performances

Just because I've been playing around with QB numbers this morning, I looked up Peyton Manning's two Super Bowl winning playoff runs. His numbers are incredible during those two runs.

2006-07

So the guy won two Super Bowls while only having, in seven playoff games during those runs, a passer rating of more than 82 *ONE TIME*. Never having a passer rating of better than 91. Three times his ratings were in the 70s. Once was in the 50s. Once was in the 30s.

Two playoff runs and his passer rating was 72.4. Holy smokes. What really pisses me off about these two playoff runs is that the closest his teams came to losing were both when they played the Pats, and NE should have won both those games. Grrrrrrrrr....

NE should have definitely won in '06. The loss in '15 was due to many factors. They were a wounded team playing somewhere they usually lose with a terrible offensive line and zero run game against one of the best defenses of modern day. And they still only lost by two. With that said, however, that game probably ends differently if played at Gillette.

I prefer to leave that stuff to Colts fans.

Anyway, the Pats were on the road in that game because they couldn't beat a lousy Eagles team and the Jets and Dolphins down the stretch. If you're not good enough to win on the road, you're not good enough to win.

You have to love the way Brady ended that debate, Manning isn't even in the discussion for GOAT anymore.

It's just a question... and one that may not be all that invalid considering Manning, Eli is 2-0 in SB's and both were comebacks sorta. But I'm just looking for opinions.

Sb1, nobody denies that Brady was just a game manager for that first one. But he also threw for 355 yards and 3 TD's against CAR, 328 yards and 4 TD's against SEA, and 466 yards against ATL. I believe his totals are 15 TD and 5 INT in his seven SB's. Manning is 3 TD and 5 INT.

Forgetting the 25 point comeback, when has Manning ever really carried a team to a playoff win? What is his "gutsiest" performance? Sadly, it's probably against NE in '06. It never felt like the chips were down for him. Any time he won, his team had the lead.

Brady had BAL and SEA in the same playoff run.

I agree. And as far as my feeling about the game being played at home... the weather was abysmal that day. Manning struggled in those games much the same as Brady in Mile High. But alas, you're right. They didn't handle business down the stretch.
