Peter King: Why NFL Should Give Back Picks to Pats (But Won’t)

Typical passive aggressive all over the place lack of cogent thinking by King looking for some reason to say "I called it!" when Brady wins the appeal and the judges eviscerate Goodell.
Of course he'll then be the magnanimous peacemaker writing "It's time to move on" as if nothing of consequence ever happened to Brady or Pats draft fans.

Bingo. If you say everything you are bound to be right.

He has said it. It's in the Wells report. He denied it 3 times when interviewed by NFL security and he stuck to his story during a 7+ hour interrogation from Wells. The fact that Wells couldn't get anything out of him should say a lot. It's not like he was even accused of a crime. 7+ is a long time and a decent interrogator should have been able to get someone lying to slip up. It's not like McNally is some sophisticated criminal. The only thing Wells could get out of him was him referring to a toilet as a urinal which Douchebag Wells was convinced is evidence of guilt.

I'm sure McNally feels horrible about the whole thing...stepping into the bathroom and all the immature texts and is doing exactly what the team has asked of him by not speaking publicly.
I know he answered questions from Wells, I'm talking publicly. The NFL is all about PR, and him talking is the only thing the slack-jawed troglodytes in the public will understand.

He just called him, the best owner he could ever work for. Belichick has no reason to hate Kraft, he gave him a second chance and complete autonomy to run football operations as well as a kings ransom to the Jets for his rights. He had also kept him one of the highest paid coaches in sports throughout his tenure. Kraft has treated Belichick incredibly well and that's why he is still here.

add to that the fact that the ship for the pats to get the draft pick sailed last april, it's just really funny to hear the anger and hatred being pitched by the yahoos

Yes.........the tack that the NFL has taken in deflategate clearly show they care about PR

People are pissed there is no first round pick and wanted Kraft to stand up and fight the league sanctions, I agree with them. Kraft apologized for his actions so even he knows he was wrong.

I didn't say they weren't ****ty at it. Although they've successfully smeared the Pats.

I wouldn't assume it'll be so soon.
I could see this taking five or six months. Can't imagine it's their highest priority. I think we'll be fortunate if they rule before the season starts.

The balls were tampered with by a human.

You have King confused with Mortenson.

The NFL will never concede that they were wrong, Goodell is incapable of it.

King was not first to report the 11 of 12 balls story, like Mortensen, but he also looked into it and wrote the following:

I am told reliably that:
  • The 12 footballs used in the first half for New England, and the 12 footballs used by the Colts, all left the officials’ locker room before the game at the prescribed pressure level of between 12.5 pounds per square inch and 13.5 psi.
  • All 24 footballs were checked by pressure gauge at halftime. I am told either 11 or 12 of New England’s footballs (ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported it was 11, and I hear it could have been all 12) had at least two pounds less pressure in them. All 12 Indianapolis footballs were at the prescribed level.
  • All 24 footballs were checked by pressure gauge after the game. All 24 checked at the correct pressure—which is one of the last pieces of the puzzle the league needed to determine with certainty that something fishy happened with the Patriots footballs, because the Colts’ balls stayed correctly inflated for the nearly four hours. There had been reports quoting atmospheric experts that cold weather could deflate footballs. But if the Patriots’ balls were all low, and the Colts’ balls all legit, that quashes that theory.
The conclusion: There is little doubt the New England footballs were tampered with by a human.

King published this on 1/23. Mortensen's story came out on 1/21. Within 5 days of the AFFCG, you had one of ESPN's respected NFL Insiders and the highest profile NFL writer in the country both independently reporting the same thing. You also had former NFL referee Gerry Austin appearing on Mike and Mike on 1/21, telling almost the same story. Interestingly, not only did all three of these stories claim make the same claims about the Patriots footballs, but they all agreed that the 12 footballs the Colts used were fine.

In the bigger picture, let's say a miracle occurs and the league reinstates the Patriots first round pick, as King is suggesting. That's great for this year, but that really doesn't address the problem: People within the NFL fed the media false information in order to make a team/player appear guilty. They also supplied false information to that team and refused to release the correct data. That this also served a distraction for that team's Super Bowl preparations was probably just a bonus for them.

Getting the 1st round pick back would be a great development and a big "win" for the Patriots. Unfortunately, the same elements who conspired against the team are still working for the league. King has the ability to shine a light on this, but refuses to.[/quote]

...

The Brady case is not a difficult one, so hopefully the ruling will be quick.
I don't think these guys know how to issue a "quick" ruling, especially when a case is being argued by a former Solicitor General, who might end up on the Supreme Court if the Republicans come to their senses and nominate someone electable...which, so far, they don't seem to be inclined to do.

When is Mort going to write a piece along the same train of thought?

Hope you're doing better Mort ... writing should be easy for you ... go ahead and do it.

God I wish I didn't agree with you....
