Looks pretty lightweight to me. Arizona should be improved, but other than that... :bricks:

somewhere from seven to nine wins

Not happy with this trade.
We need linebacker help and they squandered that opportunity by making a stupid trade that probably won't give us much value.
I would have felt better if we had got at least a 3rd round pick out of it.

The fact is the Pats got a 1st rounder for the #28 pick in the Draft when obviously no one jumped out at them. It is clear Belichick did not like the two LBs that were projected for that spot. I would not be surprised to see them trade up into the 2nd with the stock pile of picks they have.

On EEI Belichick said to this was a year to throw out the draft value chart when trading since everyone is looking to get out of the 1st round.

Dont forget Dallas had Brady Quinn still on the Board and a ton of team interested in him.

This absolutly STINKS. No 3rd rounder! Who's at the controls MATT MILLEN.

Yes we need LB help, but more of a backup role. This season we have 4 starting positions filled. We don't need a 1st rounder to come in right away.

Next year we will more as Bruschi is a FA/Retireie. So having an extra 1st next year makes a lot more sense. We can spend the 4th on a backup LB this year who can challenge whoever next year for a starting spot.

I'm sorry, but we got ripped off on this one...

Dallas traded the 22nd pick for the 36th and the Browns' 1st round next year.

We trade the 28th pick for the 110th and the Niners' 1st round next year.

However well you think the Niners are going to do next year I would be stunned if the Browns did better.

Dallas got WAY more value for a pick that was only 6 spots higher.

In all fairness the Browns gave more than they probably should have to get a player who was projected to be top 5 in the 22nd spot. That was a unique situation and as Belichick says, you trade for players, not points.

Uh, we likely moved up several spots in next year's draft in addition to obtaining an additional fourth rounder.

Whats not to like?

Looking at SF's schedule, I see only about 5 losses. Somehow they'll lose at least 6, hopefully.

Patsfan55, how does the "official" table of point values for picks treat picks from the following year? Is there something like "Add 400 points for waiting til next year for an equal-round trade"?

Hey DR/LPF, did you hit the limit on emoticons!

This is the thinking on this trade, IMHO:

This draft class is not deep. BB himself said he thought there were only about 15 or 16 guys there that were worthy of a 1st round pick. So, why pay a first rounder for a guy who isn't worth it?

We get two picks for one, and the Niners 1st rounder next year is very, very likely to be better than #28 in a deeper draft. So we get a much better player in the first round next year than we would have with the #28 pick this year, plus we get the 4th rounder as a bonus.

We may not be done trading yet, BTW. We now have two first round picks next year - our own which hopefully will be #32 (or at least no better than #28) and the Niners. Maybe we trade our second rounder next year and the 4th we just got from SF for a second rounder this year? I'm just saying - you know BB/SP are not stupid.

Good point.....not to mention they will sign Seau to a one year deal before camp starts.

Jeez, lighten up. I'm not that crazy about the trade either but this seems a little harsh. We don't really know what the plan is, but this could end up working out great for the Patriots. Keyshawn Johnson seemed to like it.

I like the trade. SF should give us a pick from 8 to 17.

I think this is about right, it's a sweet deal for the Pats. the 49ers were very lucky to win 7 games last year, their DVOA was #29. estimated wins 6, pythagoran wins 5 per footballoutsiders.

If I remeber correctly we don't have a 2nd round pick. And don't pick again until the 3rd round It seems to me that we should have gotten a little more this year than a fourth round pick to move up app. 15 spots.A lot of talent will be gone by then.

Where does San Fran's schedule rank in terms of difficulty as of now?

I just hope they don't have a kicker who can boot it 55 yards with the clock winding down (thanks a lot, Josh Brown.)

gimme a break, they are not going to go 11-5. i think you are over valuing their team. they still need to go against seattle and arizona is up and coming also. there are a number of teams on their schedule that could have good seasons or bad seasons. look at baltimore, who would ahve thought they would have been good this past year.

the fact is BB and SP didn't like the players there and were willing to go for next year where it will be lower than 28 and the draft might be deeper.

the Pats are not done trading, I would not doubt if they trade into the bottom half of the 2nd round.

Right again Mr. BW.......the only people *****ing about this trade are a couple on this board who think they know more then Belichick and SP.

Whose going to hand them a 2nd round pick? With the low 3rd, all their picks are virtual day 2's.

It doesn't make sense not getting even a third rounder this year. In 29 years of following the draft I don't recall a trade like this.I'm sure there was but not by this team. No doubt we have enough talent to win the SB this year but we need to get some young linebacks to groom for the future.
