PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

Because nobody on this board is qualified to question him. The coaching staff around BB can question him all they want (he encourages that) and I'm sure they have. Go back and watch the "Do your Job" special and realize that few people here understand even 10% of all that goes into BB and this staff's decision making.

Well doesn't that pretty much negate the purpose of this website?

It's just people who like football talking football.

I'm still not sure why he is gone and we probably won't ever get the full story. But I do wish him the best even if it was an attitude issue. Sometimes the chemistry doesn't work.

If the purpose here is to complain about the greatest coach of all time then ya maybe you guys should come back after he retires

Nope. The forum is to talk about football. Without the complainers you would have a boring conversation at times.

"Isn't Bill great?"

"Yeah he's the best"

"Yeah I love the guy"

"Can someone give me an awww yeah for BIll?"

"Aww Yeah"

For the record I haven't complained about the trade but just don't understand it. Further I haven't seen anyone say that Bill isn't the GOAT of HC's.

EDIT: One thing's for certain, Collins hasn't looked anything like the player many were projecting as a potential DPOY. It's mighty disappointing that it all turned out this way.

I wouldn't say "hasn't looked anything like" so much as "hasn't always looked like." He showed a lot of flashes, but not with the consistency you wanted to see.

But you would have a much happier gameday thread.

I guess calling it a wake up call is the best I can figure. The compensation doesn't seem to match our image of Collins, but if you take into account the "what have you done for me lately?" I think there could be legitimate complaints/concerns about his play and effort in the past 10 games or so (someone mentioned the blown coverages in the AFCCG, for example). Plus trading him somewhere that 3rd round pick is really for 8 games of Collins and the hope that new team can sign him, I would imagine that would affect what you get back as well.

Wish Bill could've gotten Joe Thomas out of the deal somehow, but if a 3rd rd was the deal then one of the best OL in the league would be waaay off the table. I suppose it is what it is.

Here's a decent reddit post speculating on the trade:
Reading the tea leaves on the Collins trade... • /r/Patriots
This makes sense.

To bring up a point I dont think anybody has made yet, I believe there is a limit of 4 comp picks. There is still a good chance that the Patriots lose enough players in free agency to get 4 comp picks in 2018 which means that losing Jamie doesn't necessarily mean they are missing out on a 2018 comp pick.

I still dont like the trade though. I will really miss Collins.

Flowers and Grissom playing well may also have something to do with it. Sure, they are ends but with Sheard and Long playing well that means that can use Ninko at LB and still have plenty of depth at the end position.

Yes I believe this is exactly how any conversation based on evaluating BB's job performance should go

You must be an insane person or a complete phucking moron or both.
I took it that he/she was joking...

Otherwise, your other options are the only ones.

Globe says Collins turned down 11 million per season offer from bb.

Did bb see a guy playing for a big paycheck? A guy who put himself ahead of the team?

Theoretically this should be good news for resigning Hightower, but he always seems to get hurt.

Should be an interesting fee agency period after we win the bowl.

I'm still in shock.

Call me Dr. Strangelove and why I fear loving the Patriots.

Contrast to what BB did vs Jerrah getting Greg Hardy last season.

I trust BB's judgement infinitely better and his record shows it.

Why is it that other teams like Denver and a Seattle offer massive contracts to premium defensive players and they still have plenty of cap room left....???

New England and Denver have roughly the same amount of cap space available. Denver is paying about 20 bucks for the QB position, has only 6 players making more than $2.5m in base salary this year, and actually has fewer players counting for $4m against the cap this year than does the Patriots.

This isn't complicated. They pay more on defense because they have cheap offenses. That's probably a big reason why their offenses are scoring so many fewer points.
