PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

This is really bad trade imo. We should have gotten at least a 1st round pick with the talent that Collins has. At the very least we should have waited till the offseason.

This year could be a Superbowl run type year. A 3rd round pick doesn't help us at all now, and not much at all later!

Please tell me this report is false!

So he pissed off bill and bill said goodbye. 11 mil but they don't say the years or the guarantee money. Hmmm

This is exactly the type of moronic nonsense that makes us a perpetual 11-14 win team but unable to get over the hump and actually win a Superbowl. Two 0f the three times Bill actually went for it (2002 with Rodney and all those guys and 2014 with Revis) we won a title/titles.

Yet somehow he doesn't get that leaving yourself incredibly thin at one position will cost you in the playoffs. We gave away Jones and now we can't get within 5 yards of any QB. Now Collins is gone. And he never gets anything in return for these guys. I don't care about PPG, this is clearly one of the worst defenses in football. It cannot be trusted to hold up against a strong playoff opponent.

Bill just doesn't get that it's better to be great for a short period than mediocre for a one period. Bill's philosophy builds teams that are good, but not great. They always have one fatal flaw. It's getting old.

My guess is that this is a lot closer to Lawyer Milloy than to Richard Seymour.

Yeah, god knows they've never been able to get over that hump. The goddamn Buffalo Bills, that's us.

how do you trade a player this coming off season when he's a free agent?

I expect us to once again hold our breaths with this defense and hope the offense can execute come the playoffs. What else's new.

They got Harrison in 2003 after he got cut by the Chargers because "he was done". And guess what, they cut defensive captain Lawyer Milloy days before the start of the regular season that year too...

Good God, you are so right, it's been two whole years since the last Lombardi. Tots unacceptable!

If you wait until the offseason, he's pretty close to worthless. Since he's be a FA and all.

Could you show me where I said that the Pats needed $60M to sign 1 free agent? No. You can't.

And while you're pointing out that they haven't signed top dollar free agents in recent years, I'm pointing out that they've never had $60M in free cap space in recent years.

Yes, the priority will be on re-signing our own players, but BB will spend money to bring in others. He's going to have to with 15 UFAs going into the 2017 off-season to fill out the roster.

I was replying to Sciz & I said....
True, Good point, but when was the last time the Patriots signed a big money free agent.

You replied to my post....
When wasThe last time the Patriots had 60m in free cap space.

Let me know if you need any more help.

And when the offense has a bad day, which is rare thankfully, we will probably lose. We cannot rely on the defense to win us a game I'm afraid, especially come playoff time.

Exactly. This tweet from Michael Lombardi says it all:
Collins on the second play of the game does whatever he wants and Bills gain 28 yards. Been happening all year. It was not going to continue

If we are only getting a 3rd if Cleveland gets a comp pick, or a 4th if they don't, why not just let him play out his contract and walk at the end of the year? A real head scratcher. If we were getting more for him, I could see it, but we didn't get much and now have lost a good player for the rest of this year. There must be more to it than this, but SIGH...

Except this must literally be what Belichick is thinking. He wouldn't make this trade for giggles.
I'm not sure a guy who's on pace for 82 receptions on a team this loaded with weapons can really be labeled as 'underperforming'.

Wow, ok, now you've just proven to be disagreeable for the sake of being disagreeable. I absolutely love Edelman and root like heck for him. I'm one of his biggest fans but even I'll admit it he is underperforming this year. He is underperforming in both stats and the 'eye test'. His 6 drops don't help either.

Don't get me wrong, I think he'll turn it around (or at least I really want him to), but to say he is not underperforming is a joke.

I understand that there are 8 games left - but I'm still very surprised they could only pry a cond 3rd round pick... so many dumb GMs. None would have given more ? Is that a sign or is it "The best I can get from the worst team in the league we'll not face again this season" ?

The Bottomline here is that Tom Brady is 39 years old. The window for this team is 2-3 years max, after that, nobody is promised anything. Need I remind anyone of the Scott Zolack years? I think that they trade Garapollo in the off season, I like Brissett, but no one really knows what the future holds after TFB. So why not build a team for now, you know while you still have the greatest QB of all time?????

I think it was folly to trade Chandler Jones and now Collins for basically nothing. I understand that there was no way that the Pats could have signed them and Hightower and Butler, but as of today, two of them are traded and none of them are signed!
