PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

I have to think if collins played well as hightower also in his contract yr, pats might have tried something else at the end of the season. Its possbile his play made their choice easy.
Also Bus Cook IIRC is the same agent randy moss had. And he also was shipped out mid season. Just saying

we can't afford collins and hightower. but the seahawks can afford top dollar deals for wilson, kam. earl thomas, jimmy graham, sherman, wagner, etc...even the broncos have talib, harris, ware, von miller, etc all on big deals.

who's our cap guy?? only guys making big money are gronk and dmc.
We have a stronger middle class than those teams and theyre paid accordingly. The seahawks and Broncos are top heavy injuries would be their undoing.

Just as confusing as why we traded Collins for a (almost a) 4th rounder is why the Browns traded for him in a contract year in a season they are going no where.

He isn't re signing with them so I assume they will franchise him?

Even if it turns out that he was disgruntled with the contract talks and was just buying time this yr to hit free agency next yr ?

The way to get paid is not by sucking. He would only diminish his contract.

I take no chances here with that Super Bowl ring. All hands on deck. The 4th rounder does nothing for me.

Nor will I ever believe a glowing article again about a Patriots' players intangibles, his upstanding citizenship, his good nature, etc.

Adam schefter says Collins wasn't going to resign...Pats would of got a 3rd round compensatory pick anyhow but im guessing they traded him so he wouldn't be a distraction.

It seems that Collins' agent didn't do him any favors..

This is a misnomer. The Pats MAY have gotten a third round pick compensation if they kept Collins and he left. But if Collins left and they do what they did in 2003, 2007, or 2008 and sign the biggest free agent on the market to one of the highest salaries, that would wipe away the Collins' compensation completely.

Interesting PFT comment. I wonder who he is referring to.

Update :

There is more to the story. Collins agent is Bus Cook. Now he’s on the 2pm bus to Cleveland. Who’s next to try their strong arm tactics on the Patriots?
Logan Ryan is the next trade to happen I predict Ryan to the Saints for a 4th or third.
Hes been getting less snaps he has been exposed and is a free agent recipe for cya later.

Probably means that they have no intention of signing a deal there..

They can franchise him right? Plus he seems to be a money player, I'm guessing if they're willing to meet his contract demands he'll sign.

This is just BS on your part. Many of us felt they'd get a deal done. The Patriots have the money to have signed Collins to a long term deal. But Collins wanted nearly 50% more than the Pats were willing to offer if the numbers reported are even close.
BS?? Yeah maybe i should paraphrase that. I knew he wouldnt be resigned.
This is what i said in a Bennett thread earlier:
One thing im sure of is:Bill is not gonna lose his mind over anyone. He'll pay whatever he thinks is fair for the player while not hurting the team. And players have to deal with it if they want to win.
Of course they had the money, but having the money and wanting to spend it on Collins are 2 different things. So, yeah, this is Bill being Bill.

Unless the Pats make another move to acquire somebody, I hate this so much. I don't care if Collins walks for nothing. The rest of this season is worth more than some lame coin-flip 3rd rounder that may or may not be a contributor in the future

Are you saying the report is incorrect and we got the Browns 3rd round pick, not their compensatory pick?

Considering that compensatory picks aren't handed out until a few weeks before the draft and most predictions don't have them receiving a 3rd round compensatory pick, someone probably confused Compensatory with Conditional.. The Browns currently have multiple 3rd round picks. It's much more likely that the pick will be based on how Collins plays for them.

I think Belichick would rather have an average talent who does as he is told than an above average talent who freelances.

All the scheming and film study and preparation doesn't really matter if 11 guys go out there and do whatever they each please.

After thinking about this for about ten minutes and reading some of the posts i have to say that:

Collins has missed a lot of time

If he was asking for miller money i'd trade him or let him walk to, hes not worth that much after missing so much time over the last two seasons.

Roberts is playing a lot of Collins snaps, and when Mingo has played in Collins spot hes played well.
So maybe it was the right thing to do although i don't like the timing of this in the middle of the season even though its during the by week.

As far as compensation we can't expect cleveland to give us a 1st or 2nd for a player that will most likely with them for eight games.
