Glad to see you spent time on Comm Ave, right across from the T... Mal's Bagel Shop across the St. was a fave, right below the very expensive copy center where we infringed upon copyright issues, in the shadow of Fenway.. BU is really good memories.
I applied there for grad school thinking that I'd be turned down and would settle for Wake Forest, but either way I was attending from Pittsburgh. I felt that both of those schools were more respected in my field(s) of study (criminal justice/human services) than anything I could find here. I don't believe that Carnegie Mellon had the program that I was looking for, or maybe I just realized that I couldn't go right to CMU without doing well at another well respected school first. I plan on physically attending CMU and eventually getting my PhD in forensic psychology.
In today's day and age, you can attend just about any institution with cameras and microphones on both ends. You can see and hear the live lectures which occur both in the AM and PM for people with different work hours, and comment or ask questions from both your microphone or keyboard. Everyone hears you, sees your question, and the professor answers just like any other student. It was really very neat. I had a BU student ID card in case I chose to physically attend class, but had the option to take courses remotely, which I did. On registration days when it was cold, you'd have to beat the local students on campus because spots would fill up since they didn't want to go outside. Tests were done both with online proctors and special facial recognition software, as well as registered proctors who go through a strict process from other cities. They mostly include going to the police station to take tests in front of officers, or registered professors on local campuses. Lots and lots of written papers turned in electronically, as well as group assignments via Skype and other peer to peer software.
I would've loved the whole experience, though. I was supposed to at least see it last spring during grad day at Nickerson field, but I was having some health issues and unfortunately, couldn't attend.
